files corruption issues [track grouping corrupt]

Post by bosonHavoc » Sat Dec 05, 2009 6:43 pm

i am having an issues (which is rather serious)
i have had 2 live sets come up corrupt so far
running 8.1
and sharing live sets between mac osx 10.5.7
and windows xp sp2
Live 8.1 suite
i have folders networked using dropbox.com
so the auto update all computers and the back up server

the set i am trying to open has not been changed in about 5 days or so

the error that comes up in ableton is
project is corrupt
[track grouping corrupt]

i'm holding it together and i do save versions so all will not be lost but its still allot of work that i dont want to do /cry
my biggest concern is the vocal takes.. i hate loosing good vocal takes

e-mailing support but it would be good to know if this is an issue other people are having
or have had this issue

and i'm off to back up my backed up files.. grrrrr

I ve had the same exact thing happen. I contacted support about fixing the set, they said it should be possible. Haven't heard back yet if it's doable or the status. At this point I'm seriously scared to use Live 8.1

Can you still access the project folder in the finder/explorer to drag the vocal recordings out if it just in case all else fails?

ya i got it sorted about 5 minutes after this post..
the file server i use has file recovery options which allows me to roll back to my last save point.. kind of like time machine on a mac.
real nice feature.. :)
and my last save point was fine.. thank all the lords of the computers! :P

i still have the corrupted file that i'll send to support if they want it to trouble shoot any possible issue..

i need to do some back ups..
i back up in 3 places but they are all sync'd so i guess i'll do a data dump
it is about time anyway

I have aslo had this problem while using 8. Fortunately i have saved my projects in stages along the way ie: stg 1 stg 2 stg 3 etc etc . Always save stages a key points in the projects so that ican always go back and recover my work if needed. I have had some bad experiences in the past and they have taught me to be consistant when it comes to projectrecovery

I have experienced a serious project corruption under Live 8.1, but not with the same error message. I suspect (in my case at least) that the problem is related to the "new file format" of 8.1.

Once the project was saved in 8.1, it could not be-reopened. This is quite a large project - about 150 tracks - yet there were no problems in earlier versions. Once it was saved in 8.1, attempts to re-open led to: first, an interminable wait (5 minutes or more) with the spinning beach ball of death, and finally this beloved, ungrammatical, and indecipherable dialogue box:

"The document [....] is corrupt. [There is not enough memory available. Please save your Live Set now and quit. (at line 4381334, column 98)]"

So which one is it? A corrupt document? Not enough memory? There are 18GB of RAM on this Mac.

I tested repeatedly by opening the pre-8.1 (8.09, to be exact) version of the project again, re-saving it in 8.1, re-opening in 8.1, and the same error resulted.

Cheers,
ZM

SYSTEM:
Mac Pro 8-core 2.8 2008
18GB RAM
Snow Leopard OX 10.6.2

I think I have the same problem but in my case Ableton just simply gives me a message warning that a error ocurred.
This happens when I'm listening to a project and at a determinated point the program gives me an error or audio starts clicking and dropping and eventually live shuts down.

I had a similar corrupt file problem. I sent the .als to support and got a fixed one the next day.

I imported a track into another set and moved a clip from the old track into a new track.

Hi all,

if you experience corrupt sets or sets which can be opened in an older version of Live but not a more recent one, please contact [email protected], describe your issue and attach the als. We will examine your set and see if it can be fixed.

Please remember to always make regular backups of your data.

Best wishes,
Tobias

Have updated to Live 8.1.1 now and the problem is still there.

Hoping for Ableton support to save my day.

i got two sets corrupted aswell with 8.1.1
no idea why i should "backup my data regurarily" really.
you would think that a software currently at version 8.x would be stable enough to not corrupt your sets hah.
ohwell. serves me right for paying 6k swedish on a software with a dodgy upgrade scheme in the first place.

Well, I can think of a few good reasons to backup regularly:
  • Your harddrive suddenly fails.
  • While you are away someone breaks into your appartment/studio/office and steals your computer.
  • During a thunderstorm, a power surge fries your computer.
  • You use your computer on a train which has magnetic tables (e.g. old Deutsche Bahn Interregios).
  • During a gig someone spills his beer over your laptop.
  • Your computer catches a virus which erases or encrypts your harddrive.
  • Your virus scanner mistakenly considers your live set to contain a virus and scrubs it.
  • You accidentally delete the folder containing your current project, not the one with your old tax statements.
  • You encounter a bug in Live.
Only in the last case there is the chance that our support can help you recover your file. In all others it is just gone.

Don't get me wrong, we are working hard to ensure you can always open your sets again, and we are working on a fix for this particular issue producing corrupt track groupings. But we cannot guarantee that such a bug will not slip through ever again. Really all we can do is try to fix such issues and repair your sets where possible.

Best wishes,
Tobias
