Any one else had trouble with 4.1?
Sets that run perfectly in anything lower, stutter and drop-out in 4.1
Bit of a bummer really

Hi ian,
please give us more details the problem.
At first, which Operating system do you use?
These "stutter and dropouts", does it happen by just playing or directly after user input like clicking the mouse or pressing computer keys?
regards,
Alex

I don't know what OS you're on but I had really buggy performance w/4.1 under windows XP. I did a complete format and reinstall of windows and 4.1 works fine now.
I know, big hassle, but it may solve your problem.

Hi,
I get the same problem in Xp and Live 4.1 and 4.0.4.
I thought it happened with sampletank/ableton combination, but it happens if I just to the following:
- arm an audio channel, monitor to auto, and track activator on
- play any instrument for a while
- my asio settings are SB Audigy 2zs asio 24/96
(although it happens with the Creative ASIO, and SB Audigy 2zs asio too)
(don't record or anything just sit there and play for a while)
sometimes it does it right away some times it takes a while before it does it... but its really annoying.
in my case, my setup is an xp pro, pentium 4 with hyperthreading enabled, 4gb ram, nvidia 6800, raid0, and sound blaster audigy 2 zs
I tried disabling hyperthreading... it didnt solve it...
I tried changing performance options for processor scheduling and memory usage... nothing happened.
I tried running with the minimum amount of services needed to run xp... the problem still there...
I've also seen the symtoms other people have mentioned, the cpu meter spikes when the stutter occurs. If you look in the windows task manager|performance|cpu usage... there are two color bars that show there.. one is read the other is green.. usually the red bar is very high when that happens... (i havent found any documentation about what is that supposed to represent)
The funny thing is that on my older pc running WinME with an SB live with the Kx asio drivers both versions of the program worked flawlessly...

Thanks for the suggestions
As I'm more interested in making music than making a program work I have stuck with the earlier version of Live. However, I still have 4.1 on my mac and everytime I forget and launch this version, it just cranks out a racket — very nasty. Oh well…

I've just had my first crash of live in a live situation... and it's the first time I used 4.1 on stage...
this never happened before and I still don't know how this could happen... very embarassing...
still, since beeing able to use midi, performances and producing make a lot more fun!
well, not helping here, or am I?

I am also having this stutter bug, it is very annoying! For me it also seems to happen when playing a midi instrument in live for a short time. Has anyone found a cure for this or a reason for it? I run live on a
Sony Vaio P4 XP
HD 30
Ram 512
Echo i/o
midisport 2x2
alesis micron
Hope this can be taken care of, it makes live very annoying to use!

Hi guys,
Whilst trying to play sets that 4.0 breezed through on 4.1 I've been struggling to iron out CPU spike, audio dropout, and glitch issues with 4.1 for nearly a week now. Searching the forums, posting, disabling VST plugins, reducing audio and midi tracks all to no avail.
Tonight I just re-installed 4.0 and all my problems seem to have magically disappeared. The CPU hardly moves above 25% in a set that was freaking 4.1 out with sudden spikes from 25 to 80 and back again and causing audio to pause (which I think according to the manual should only cause dropouts but no timing variations).
I don't know why but atleast I've quit flogging a dead horse. It's only been an hour but 4.0's looking rock solid in comparison. 4.1's issues were giving me a stomach ulcer and wasted over a day of my time.
It may not be the answer for everybody else but I recommend giving it a go unless you had serious issues with 4.0 on your system, atleast until a future update proves itself more reliable.
Good Luck, let me know when 4.2 is out and I'll have a look!
Cheers

Hi folks,
before you get down to any previous version of Live please try to check at first if there is a newer version.
Currently it is because there is a Live 4.1.1 beta version and the final release comes soon.
Hi beateater,
between 4.0 and 4.1 are 4 other releases (4.0.1, 40.2, 4.0.3 and 4.0.4).
Did you tried any of these versions comparing to 4.1 or did you tried the beta of 4.1.1?
Please keep in mind that if you go back to a previous version, we have less options to fix possible bugs and problems.
regards,
Alex

Hello Beateater
sorry you lost so much time, only to find that it wasn't anything that you were doing. It is really annoying I agree. For a version that served to introduce Operator it really has done Live no favours. Weird that even without the much maligned Operator in use, the program just died. I'm glad I don't plan to use Live in a live situation as I'm sad to say it really has lost the stability it was praised for. Also, I have no intention of chucking out a perfectly good mac (ie upgrading to a newer G5 or something) just to use a Live plug-in instrument that isn't really all that cop and buggers up the rest of the program.
Moany old me, eh?

Hi ian,
again, a statement like "...the program just died." will never help us to do anything better.
So please what exactly is the problem you have wih Live 4.1 you do not have with the previous version Live 4.0.4. And if there is such a problem, did you tried any of the betas of Live 4.1.1?
regards,
Alex

Hi All,
Sorry for sounding whingey, I reckon Live is awsome, and I will checkout updates as they come out. All I really mean, now I've cooled off is, if had to perform with Live tonight I'd be using 4.0., that's all.
Oh, 4.1.1 is out! Gotta go, download nearly complete

Hope you give 4.1.1 a go, it's rock solid for me now. All of my 4.1 woes have disapeared!
Good Luck
