DJ live set - sample search

Post by djwiky » Wed Dec 09, 2009 7:12 am

Hi,
I have a very large dj set consisting of more than 500 songs/samples distributed between 4 mixing tracks, within the project. When DJing, it is sometimes hard to find specific samples in my set. I am wondering if anybody knows of a way to easily search and find a sample within the project, and have Live scroll to that sample so I can see it/play it/use it. I have tried the "Find and replace" program included with Macs. Any other ideas?
Ableton, please put a search and scroll to function in Live 9.
Thanks

No way to search as such - but maybe you could name scenes to help you. Like type of music, bpm...well, anything you want to really.

I am working on a couple of similarly large sets. whilst not a search function I find using the "mixed in key" programe and organising everything down the set so similar songs and samples are nearby gives me good workflow and good harmonic mixing results

I do that exact same thing. Cheers! But sometimes somebody requests a song at a bar/club, that I know is already in my set, but just can't seem to find quickly.

There is a way.

Go to one of the numbered folder icons in Live's browser.
Select 'Current Project' from the bookmarks.
Then use the search.

Thanks but still not quite the answer we're looking for. I want to see the sample in the session view, not in the Live Browser or Mac Finder application.

what about just finding the song you need and dropping it in an empty clip slot?

Probably using colors would help? Just a simple idea...
