Some of the sounds are really good but I imported all my own samples and that's what I mostly use.

I'm actually really enjoying using Maschine exclusively and nothing else, with the laptop lid closed (using InsomniaX on macbook).

I had my hands on battery for a very short time but I was quitte disapointed by the samples as well. I love Live's Drum machine samples, on the contrary.
Is it easy to use live's drum machine sampleS with maschine?

you know I don't know, I've got better samples than live even for all of those drum machines so I've heard lives samples but never touched them but tonight I'm just trying to see what I can get out of maschines stock which is by all means no match for lives samples at all zero zilch none.

but I'm getting some nice sounds out of maschines weak samples and weak fx which says alot for it's interface and workflow that's the real thing that kills me it's workflow is just the best, it reminds me of when i first got into live kind of, very refreshing. I had no idea that native instruments could even relate to this kind of workflow cause alot of synth developers and daw developers seem to feel that they've accomplished much by making things difficult but when somebody wants to get down to making sweet beats the workflow is the king of the features not some damn modmatrix filter plunger, native hit paydirt with this one. I can only hope that they want to get a closer relationship with ableton because the combination is brilliant.

All of you out there who've experienced and appreciate the unmatched workflow of dedicated hardware yet also realize the advantages of computer-based software, Maschine is what we've all been waiting for!

yeah I hope it's not too late too as much as people hate mpcs round here I don't know what made them go that route but we'll see what the future holds and I love my mpcs but the truth is as a company their just not on par with ableton as much as people complain about ableton they couldn't even handle akais customer service.

@starving student

In what way do you consider maschine's fx and samples to be 'weak'?

it's a taste thing really, not scientific but for a couple of days now i've been getting something useful out of them but overall for my taste they're not heavy enough for me it's like they're thin maybe a good analogy would be to say you know that ice effect maschine has well all of the effects feel like that to me, it will be very interesting to see the sp/mp emulations in the next update cause the current lo-fi and saturator don't sound very good, but there are folks here on the forum who find maschines fx to be among their favorites so don't let my opinion in that area effect you.
the funny thing is that at first I hated them and now they've kind of put my mindstate in an oldschool sampling mode where we used to have to make do with what we had and just be creative with it and make it work, maschine kind of gives me that feeling a little bit and I like it. I much preffer abletons efx but I really do hope they get the sp1200 and mpc 60 emulations to sound right that would be a very nice addition, one can only hope they outsourced that part of the job to audio damage

but the efx are not the priority for me, the priority is definitely workflow, you know workflow is really the hidden core of everything, it's why turntablist could do so many efx years before hardware efx boxes became affordable because of the workflow of a simple turntable platter, I want someone on Ni's team to be a workflow captain and focus entirely on that and if they focus on workflow they will enhance every other aspect of maschine 10fold just by proxy. other than that but in the same vein I'd like them to integrate with lives drummracks seamlessly

Aren't Maschine's FX basically the same as Kore's and Kontakt's?

If so, then cool - I really the NI FX...

I'm not sure, have owned kontakt in the past and do own one other Ni product right now but I've never liked their fx, just not warm enough for me but then i'm always out for the organic side of things.

I use the Maschine hardware to control Drums in the Maschine plug-in, APC40 to control Live's mixer functions/clips/selected device parameters, and Kore controller for send effect parameters. Then I also have the BCR2000 for control of various things for the Master 8 tracks or the main 8 drum tracks (sub tracks of one of the main tracks). This isn't necessay, but I like to have some drum channels with instant access to sends and volumes or effects and quick access to levels, filter or effects of the main 8 bus tracks.
How CPU intensive is the Maschine running as a plug in?

I'm giving serious consideration to getting one to use for additional drums etc when playing live (similar to Hawtin) as I'm using my Launchpad to do it just now but it can be a pain jumping between user modes to launch clips and play percussion.

If it helps, current live set includes 4 main channels, and 3 additional for loops, acapellas etc and there are 3-4 effects running per channel.

Just now I'm controlling it using a UC-33e and a launchpad but would love to add the Maschine before the weekend if it's viable

You know, you actually can get Maschine to control drum racks.... you just have to have the 1.1 update and set up the individual midi outs for each pad.... a bit time consuming the first time you do it, but once you've done it once, you just save it as a project file, and it's there whenever you want it.

I do use Maschine to control Live's Drum Rack using the template made by fragmented, which is also a good general Live template. With this template Group A pads always instantly map to whatever 16 Drum Rack pads are in focus. I was talking more about what if Ableton had collaborated with NI so that you have dedicated hardware control of Live devices such as Drum Rack, just like it does with its own Maschine software, as in how you can browse sounds, sample, edit waveforms...etc. all within the hardware.

yeah, i use his template too. It's good.

But by assigning all the pads to midi outs, then you can use Maschine's other features, like step sequencer, swing etc...
