Improvement of the Audio Engine in Ableton!!!

Post by xyandrej » Wed Dec 09, 2009 3:04 pm

To make it short!

We all know that Ableton just doesn´t sound like Sonar, Cubase, Logic, Protools or Samplitude
but competes with these audio sequencers on the market.
I am using Ableton for producing my material but I allways have to export the individuall audio tracks
so I can mix them down in Sonar. This gives me a much smoother, more musical, just better sound result at the final mixdown!
Unfortunatelly this takes so much time.

Why doesn´t ableton not even have a realtime bounce to disk function?
Yes you can do it via the external audio effect and it will bounce the master in real time
but why cant that be made in the export menu?

Ableton please work on the Audio Engine in 2010!!!

Thank you
Andrej

Dude do you know anything about audío engineering? I gues not! How do you want me to define more musical?
mm, lets see, better sounding, nicer sounding, more sounding like music.

comprende??

Ok, maybe I exagerated a bit but realy, there is a difference between Ableton and e.G. Logic.
I am just allways looking for the best sound and I love working with Ableton, coudlnt imagine something else!

How do you want me to define more musical?

That's what I meant.
It means different things to different people, so it's not a good way to judge things.

well, i am not trying to judge anything. I am just saying that Ableton could work more on a better auduio engine and thats it!

my Akai mpd32 sounds better in logic than in live, I can agree with the OP statement.

+1

SRC Comparisons between major products >>> http://src.infinitewave.ca/

Look at Ableton 7 (standard mode)... = bullshit

Must be updated with Ableton 8 (hope it's much better than Ab7 HQ...)

I wouldn't dream of using Live outside HQ mode, in which it seems to compare favourably to just about everything, including Pro Tools HD.

However, looking at the HF rolloff on Logic and Sonar, they will give it a "smoother" sound than Live. Live looks like it has a much sharper HF filter (and one that keeps all its distortion above the Nyquist frequency - nice) which technically makes it "realer", but probably not nicer.

Perhaps you might be able to emulate the "Logic" sound in Live by applying a linear phase equaliser with a very, very steep rolloff starting at 21Khz? Sonar even goes as far as rolling off at 20Khz if you really wanted to go for it.

I might try that myself actually.

Thats a great one!!! I do that in the mastering stage with the UAD Cambridge EQ. just to get rid of those zzizling freq. that nobody hears anyways.
Thanks

so what you say is, actually live has the BEST sound quality? and the others are worse but people are used to it so they want that?

no way!! :)

we should now create an awesome "protools" plugin that degrades lives sound :) and one setting for logic, too :)

To make it short: you are totally wrong.
the "pure" sounds from nuendo4/cubase5/live8/protools LE/Logic is close to THE EXACT SAME (im not talking about others, because i dont know them)
(pure sound is when you bounce to disk, not when you listen)

but you're not crazy, what you hear may come from your sound card DAC and the way the DAW "talk to" your sound card. One of the best fail exemple is Cubase 5 with apogee sound card or at least its about the model.

But you also cant say that unless you have a GOOD MONITORING system. Its time to stop stupidity. (and no, a 100$ headphone aint a good monitoring system xD)

You know.. it's good enough for Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner, it's good enough for me. I think people need to stop blaming their DAW for their own inability to produce well!
