Post by mr-magoo » Thu Nov 26, 2009 6:42 pm

i have a deacent enough studio set up, acoustic foam, bass traps, KRK vxt 6 monitors, KRK ergo room correction.

Using sony oxofrd eq and limiter for mastering

what is this "boxyness" area i hear people speak off? 200-400 hz?

what general frequencys are u boosting/ cutting on the master strip?

normally i give a boost around 45hz, 100hz 4khz and 8khz

off the top of my head i would say its around 300-500hz

if you have the mixdown available, id recommend correcting it there, rather than affecting the stereo file.

have you thought about experimenting with spectrum analyzer, can be helpful in this situation when getting to know frequencies.

do some research tho, im no guru

300-500 sounds about correct. Spectrum analyzer a great tool to use as suggested. I use very little eq boost and cut on master depending on the program material. If any more than 3db then you need to go back and get the mix tighter less of course you don't have the original mix.
