Live 4.1 stopped audio output during a show...

Post by boreta » Tue Mar 08, 2005 7:22 pm

I was playing a show saturday night on a Powerbook G4 1.25ghz / M-audio firewire audiophile and about 40 minutes into it, with no sign of a disk or CPU overload, doing nothing complex but bringing in the volume of 1 track, the audio cut out. All of the volume meters dropped and it was dead silent for about two seconds, then it just started where it had left off.

Any ideas what this was or how to make it not happen again?

Thanks!

It's been pointed out here many times. Live 4 + M-Audio + Firewire = Troubles. Do some searches... you'll see. It does exactly what you're experiencing.
MacBook Pro (MacOS 13.0.1) i9 Processor, 32gb RAM, 4tb SSD
(STUDIO I/O) MOTU UltraLite mk5 (w/ADA8200), (LIVE I/O) Behringer X Air XR18
Ableton Live Suite 11 (Live performances), Studio One 5 (Studio Stem Creation)

How about a MOTU828 MKII? A friend has one I could borrow, does that work better than the audiophile?

Hang on, other people have had similar issues without using m-audio products, don't sell it just yet.
Logic dictates that you'd be better off trying to find out what caused the problem, then if you KNOW it's Audiophile and the issue can't be resolved, then you should sell it.

I wouldn't know, I have an M-audio F410 and haven't had a problem. hehe
(I am on windows however, and I think those compatabilty issues are mainly with Mac- checkout your drivers)

Hello Alex.
It's very nice that you are helping out.
Thanks for you work and your patience.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I had used 828mk2
and had extactly the same trouble.
I tried using it with three different brand new powerbooks
and the problem would alway accure,
30-40 mins, yes that time brings back memories.

I switched to PCMCIA soundcard, RME Multiface, and the problem dissapeared.

Good luck guys.

PS
if the glicth occures once, the chances for the second one will drop.
If you have a rehersal. let it play for more than an hour and let it glitch.
It often happens in about 20-50 mins.

Hey Alex,

I have the latest OS X - 10.3.8. Thanks for your help... the problem is very unfortunate

Sniffio - what do you mean when you say "the second one will drop." If i have time to let it play for an hour are you saying it will not happen during the second hour?

yes.
it is not 100%, but there is a better chance it won't.
or less likely to happen.

The second glitch will occure when you load another Live Set from the begining.

But plz remember that this is only based on luck.
I had many times with the Second glitch.

wishing you the best luck for your gig.

BTW if you won't be needing to use multiple in/out,
i would recommend to use the built-in sound-card.
It won''t glicth and i heard it has better latency.
Just make sure the plugs won't move or drop out during the show.
