On The Road To Hell
On The Road To Hell
Things are looking up for the Qube collaboration project that I have been working on for the past 2 years. One of the songs we are working on made it into the top 10 on the charts. One of the many sites I have been using as promotion threatened to delete my account due to inactivity.... I had forgotten this site which is called Soundclick. I read they delete accounts that don't upload a song.... so, I said why not, and uploaded a rough version of one of the songs we have been working on.... It was called Road To Hell-RoughMix V2....
To my surprise..... it took of in the charts. It has been in the top 20 for one week now. Today it hit the golden number of #10 in our genre.
highest in charts: # 224 (191,576 songs currently listed in Rock)
» highest in sub-genre: # 10 (4,512 songs currently listed in Rock > Psychedelic Rock)
I am very excited. The rough mix that took off is here.... http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8416376
On The Road To Hell V4- is a much closer mix.... and has started up the charts as well.... it is #31 now.the link is here ..... http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8437367
If you have time.... please check out both versions and let me know which you think is better
The Qube project is an international collaboration I am working on called Indoctrination. It will be a 3 CD spoken word soundscape adventure that will be released with my 2nd feature film ( also called Indoctrination ) I have been working for the last 2 years on the project with Cockroaches (Berlin Germany ), and Dan Biholar (Regina Sask) Recently, we added a bass guitarist to the mix who now lives here in Cupar as well. We now appear to have an excellent filmmaker/composer from Spain on board, as well as an animator from Croatia and one from Ireland, a photographer/musician from England, and musicians from Norway and the USA have expressed interest in joining the collaboration.
Indoctrination-a 3 CD Spoken word / soundscape adventure and Experimental Feature Film exploring intelligent design, the evolution of man's spirituality and his compassion for humanity, while destroying himself and the world due to character flaws. A drug addicted street poet's musings on man's role, human nature, self examination and spirituality warped through perceptions of mass media, art and literature. In the end, the truth of events becomes secondary to our perception of these events, and the world we live in.
A rough video cut of 3 other songs is here http://www.vimeo.com/6882918
Although we are about a year away from completion, I do have a rough mix of CD1 and 2 up on a number of sites.
If interested.... you can check the mixes out on my blog at http://icecubefactory.blogspot.com/
Or on Soundcloud

So far the feedback received on the work has been excellent.....

Re: On The Road To Hell
I listened to the first few parts in Indoctrination and then browsed through some samples of the rest of the songs.
'My mind is going, I can feel it'.
This is somewhat akin to the music I like to listen, but I tend to favor things a bit more extreme and usually avoid the spoken word - but that's just so you can tell where I'm coming from, I would not comment on beat-oriented music in general.
This is a very ambitious work you set for yourself. The variety is good, the mix is very clear. It reminds me of Laurie Anderson's music for some reason. It's a political piece, and you seem to cover a lot of themes. But I don't detect any anger, just a sense of challenge. Good luck on the video.

Re: On The Road To Hell
Yes... the whole beat oriented approach is new to me.... mainly ambient before.... and many years ago I was a rock guitarist. I'm trying to blend a few genres for this project. Thanks for the Laurie Anderson complement... Loved her work.... who knows, once I am done processing all the vocals it will take on more of that sort of feel. I am having fun with this beat oriented experimental rock approach.
We've been work for two years now. I'm from Canada and Cockroaches from Berlin Germany.... File sharing on free servers ( and you know how long that can take) .... and the there are communication/translation issues..... Better these days.
Thanks for the feedback. I shuffled a number of songs around and rearranged the order of things. CD 2 is now CD1. Things seem to flow better in a narrative and musical way. It's covers a broad gambit of genres. Rock is only one of them. More often it tends to lean toward , electronic ambient... But rock, blues, eastern music, and more are in there.I like mix 2 the best. OH yes good news the new mix is in now the 20 twenty at Soundclick.... #16 as of yesterday..... http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8437367
Thanks for listening and it probably added to the the stats as well.(-:
More to come shortly

Reviews from various forums.....
Heya, I checked out your tune and I'm actually excited about the quality of this work, it's very well mixed of a lot of darker type sounds that I'm familiar with. Very awesome music to put you in that dark state of mind and feel. Good stuffs.

I really loved the on the road to hell part. The twist going from 'choirs' to drums works pretty well. It is kind of dark and it has a nice theme to the song itself. Alot of stuff going on at the same time. I really gotta check out more of your stuff! Thumbs up so far. I will check up on the other stuff you posted in the next weekend

Congrats on your success. I very much enjoyed this - it seems to possess a wide variety of music and yet it all seems to fit. Great use of the Gregorian Chant in the intro. It really captivates the listener.
Again, congrats and Happy Holidays!

Hi
I really enjoyed both versions, but V4 had the edge for me as it was tighter and had a clearer sound.
My only comment is the end which just feels a bit to abrupt... but not a big deal.
sounds like an exciting project with a lot of work going on... good luck with all you are doing,
Pete

I guess I'm reviewing Road to Hell, I got a little lost so I decided to go with the post topic.
So after reading the description I expected weird, and I got it. Love the seagulls, much cooler than the wolves. It sounds good, I really, really don't get it but it sounded well mixed and clean.
sarcastically yours,

Re: On The Road To Hell
A new filmmaker has been confirmed in the Indoctrination collaboration. He is from Istanbul, Turkey. He will send images and audio from there, to contribute to the project. This means that the collaboration is likely Canada, Germany, Spain, England, Turkey, Croatia, Ireland.... with Norway and the USA pending. Very exciting.
