best os x version?

Post by egohygiene » Wed Mar 09, 2005 6:54 pm

I'm running live 4.1 under os x 10.3.4

I've heard that upgrading to 10.3.8 isn't cute, there seem to exist some performacne troubles under 10.3.8

- what versions do you run?
- are there better configurations for live and os x when it comes to performance?

Hi,
I am still on 10.2.8 and since Live 4.1.1, everything works perfectly. 4.1 was buggy on OS X and everything was slow.

I too am running 10.3.8 with no probs. I believe you may even notice a speed bump in some areas (Safari for one)

If you decide to go for it I'd recommend downloading the combo updater and installing it from the hard drive rather than doing an auto update. Also, repairing permissions before and after the install can help assure a safe update.

If you decide to update to 10.3.8 make sure you don't have the Macally drivers that caused this disturbing problem for some:

I recalled this from checking for possible probs when I did the update. I didn't have the drivers and the update has been fine for me.

i think 10.3.8 on my rev c powerbook 12" is ok.

the fan thing never happens unless i have a few things plugged in via USB (ie. a hub with a mouse and uc17 plugged in and a maya 44 plugged in tot he other usb port).

then the fan goes mad

to be honest i always try (on any computer system, windows, linux, macosx etc) to be totally patched up and up to date.
