just in so far as i think technology liberating us is a paradox, we become reliant on technology and you cant rely on it and be liberated. with reliance you become a slave to technology not a master.

To me it's sad and an official endrosement by Ableton of what i suspected for a while now....real musicians aren't really where Ableton realises it can sell it's shizz.
I don't care how much of a non-musician you are, who the hell doesn't know what Fmaj7 is? It takes less than half an hour to learn chord construction. In fact fuck it I am going to do it for you in this thread and call my method:
The Russanator:
The formula for the major scale is the following intervals
Whole tone, whole tone, half tone, whole tone, whole tone, whole tone, half tone.
Take the chromatic scale and start on any note and apply this formula to get the major scale:
C C# D D# E F F# G G# A Bb B C
Let's start on C.
apply the wwhwwwh formula you get:
C D E F G A B C
C major scale.
To harmonise this scale to get your chords simply stack in 3rds. i.e take a note then the third note and the fifth note and you get your chords in the key of C major.
So start on C, add E and now G. (Root, 3rd, 5th) This is the chord of C major
Then go to the next note and do the same:
D F A, this is the chord of Dminor.
When you have done them all you will have the following chords
Cmaj,Dmin, Emin, Fmaj, Gmaj, Aminor, Bdim
This applies to all major keys:
major, minor, minor, major, major, minor, dim
But, what happens if we add another note to the chords? the next third up?
lets take F major
We get F A C and now E.
Guess what? we call this Fmaj7
Apply this to all chords and you get:
Cmaj7, Dmin7, Emin7, Fmaj7, G7, Amin7, Bmin7b5
This chord sequence applies to all major keys regardless of which key you are in.
Now you know The Russanator, that will be 250 euros please, apologies for the lack of GUI.

instead, you could remove them, and make a linear button row that each is the needed coord.
why do manually work all the time to get the stuff going the way you want it, if you could sit down once, clean it up, and from then on not be able to do errors anymore?
that's what we have pc's for: to make our life more easy, and then, maybe progress.

and M4L is great, as it allows "to each it's own". nothing for you, maybe, but that doesn't matter.

- when the first affordable analog synths arrived, people complained that they would replace instrumentalists
- when the first affordable drum machines arrived, people complained that they would replace drummers
- when the first affordable orchestral sample collections arrived, people complained that they would replace orchestras
- when CD and mp3 DJing arrived, people complained that it would replace vinyl
All of this was true. Also, none of it was true.
New music took advantage of new technologies. Old music kept going as it always had.
Ableton makes tools, and Max for Live provides a catalyst for more tool making. This is an apolitical position.
