there seems to be a gap between simple 2 channel soundcard / controller combination boxes & 4 channel ones

it seems like everything with more than 2 channels comes with effects & a bunch of potentially unnecessary I/Os

is there a box out there with a standard DJ layout for more than 2 channels & just one stereo master out?

Allen and Heath xone:4D?

Those things have no fx and don't have the usual A&H extra external-fx routey-thingies (afaik), and they're meant to be pretty sweeeet. Expensive though.
Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.

yeah see I don't want all the jog wheels & extra bits. I can control everything from within Ableton

I just need to send sound to a PA & I'm finding most soundcards have extra stuff I don't need (mostly inputs)

thought maybe I could find something cheaper dedicated to DJs, or at least the same price but more suited to me

but everything's either just a 2 channel rig or these whizz-bang things

all I want's a standard 3 or 4 channel DJ mixer, no inputs, with master & headphone outs.. but it doesn't exist

oh & when I say no inputs, I mean except for USB or (preferably) Firewire

there is no such thing (at this moment). real mixer with only digital ins is too geeky. you can count mixers with traditional ins plus optional fw/usb on one hand! if you don't want real inputs take a pure midi controller and soundacard.

the purest form mixer with fw is mackie d.4 pro mentioned earier. it has no gimmicks (besides filter). no midi though.

Any recommendations?
Thanks
Allen&Heath Xone 2D quite litterlly what you described...unless I'm missing something.

The Xone does this for the most part...though it does have soundcard inputs...if you don't want to use them don't (I typically don't)

I own one and its pretty awesome. I'm even thinking about adding a 1D to sit along side it so I can access 8 tracks simultaneously.
