Crackling Sound when playing music

Hi,

i've got a mixer Numark DMX-06. When i play my Vinyls (Turntables are plugged in phono) then i have a good and clear sound.
But when i play music from my computer (plugged in Line) then i have some strange crackling sound in the background. It is a Sony Vaio notebook and the cracklig starts as i connect my Echo Audiofire 4 via firewire.

I have this disturbing sounds when i work with reason, ableton and even if i do nothing

i already found one way to get rid of it: the crackling sound is gone if i run my vaio on battery.
all my components get power of one jack. maybe thats the problem?

plz help me to get rid of it

Could it be a grounding issue? Do you use a surge suppressor? May help in that respect. Are you running ASIO drivers? That could clear things up. If not, look at the sample rate adjustment in preferences (forget exact name, don't have Live up in front of me) as I found with MME/Direct stuff I had to crank it up a lot higher to get clear sounding samples when not in ASIO.

i have tried all things with asio drivers and normal drivers. makes no difference.

and yes i am using a surge suppressor i use one with 3x and another 6x is plugged in the 3x. maybe this is the problem? but i have only 2 surges in my room...

If you have a 2nd surge supressor plugged into the 1st one I would not do that. I would put them into separate plugs always. If you are limited with the number of plugs and usage of them get a larger unit and only use the one. My recommendation if that's the situation. I can't think of anything else other than newest ASIO drivers from card mfr or use ASIO4All drivers (latest was 2.9 I believe).

If you switch to MME/other setting and adjust the samples up to about 1024-1096 does it go away? Just curious of that makes any difference.

I've had similar problems with my set up. Unstable electrical currents bring out all sorts of glitches and droning hums that bleed through the audio connections in computer systems, it takes a while until you find the right setup.

I agree with darkenedsoul - you should try unplugging the 2nd surge supressor. That, combined with the electric installation in your room, might be generating unwanted noise.

I've had crackles for ages, and YES I too had 2 surge protectors protecting my laptop. I removed the 2nd one & the crackles are gone.

Great to hear. You should never double up surge suppressors like that. Glad it resolved the issue!
