Download this Simpler patch for fun and games...

you need a controller for this (although you'll get the basic jist with the mouse).

download this file

Simpler Glitch

assign a midi controller to 'start' and 'length'
hit play
play with the controllers
kind of like a grain synth thing going on - i've been having fun with this all day.

OT? Bug?

Post by Liam » Sat Mar 12, 2005 4:50 pm

I tried to open this file and it tried to launch a previous version of Live that I had already uninstalled. My system just hung up without opening the file.

Surely the files ought to oopen the latest version of Live by default?

And why would it cling to an older version.

Task Manager does not even report the offending app. The only way to get rid of it is to reboot.

Re possible bug.

Post by Liam » Sat Mar 12, 2005 6:35 pm

Regarding the 'bug' - it seems the old version of Live seems to hang because there is a window behind the Live splash screen telling me that an old audio driver is not available. once I realized that then I was able to get past that point.

Re the Simpler tip: Great stuff. Wonder why Ableton seem to be igmoring the potential of this tool.

Anyway it does work something like Grainstates from NI Reaktor - some great tones coming through especially using imported waves like from Tacklebox.

Yea, I used things like this and it reminds me again what power there is in Simpler.
Right now I am controlling start and lengt with clip envelopes through midi yoke and added one for resonator note as well. Amazing, really.
And: Resonators is a strong instrument in itself, grat plucking sounds whirling around here.

Edit: One problem here I see - undo will save the changed settings for sample start etc. So when changing sample in Simpler when things are running, undo starts to undo those controlled settings, not the sample replacement.
So the undo.cfg is now 25 megs after some minutes of running!

God this is beautiful! Must be because a Scotsman made it!

Really simply inspiring. I wish I thought of putting things in different order.

I actually just wish I thought of things...

yes its cool that you posted this, cuz im sure a lot of peeps will get their kix off this kind of biznez for the first time.
but yes, it really is kind of an old trick for any sampler (especially one that you can control sample start/length via knobs...

im not tryin to be like 'i did this first' or anything, its just one of those trix that when you first come to the realisation its really fun.

Yeah, my amazement was more at the placement of the effects. This mae me realize I am pretty damn rigid about the order of effects and don't experiment with them enough.

The delay before the resonators makes such a heavenly shimmer over anything. What's interesting is that this thing makes it hard to stay in key, perhaps bbecause the source sample is not a distinct tone, per se.

Thanx for sharing Mosca,

it's always instructing to dissecate other ppl's work and understand the "logic" behind it

Btw, did you deliberately reduce the polyphony to one voice? Why?
