mono vs. stereo tracks?

Post by softserv » Mon Dec 28, 2009 10:45 pm

Hi again peeps -

I'm mixing tracks in arrangement view - some of the stems i'm working with are mono files, others are stereo files. I'd like to place them in the appropriate tracks in Live, but I can't figure out how to tell if the audio track I've inserted is mono or stereo. Anyone know how to determine that?

Thanks!

The audio tracks are stereo - it doesn't matter if your audio source is mono or stereo. Mono sources will play equally on left and right sides, stereo sources will play their right side on the right and left side on the left.

True that, A little trick i learned from the laidback luke forum is to produce in mono when using headphones so that you can get your levels more right because stereo can be deceiving in headphones.

You can always use the Utility plugins to turn a track to Mono. I've had some tracks where I only want the right side but want it placed in the center channel. It's a great tool!
