"Choppa" effect using standard plugins

The effect really seems to be a chain of beat repeats (or anything) can be "sliced" and selected using macro control and having an effect automated for any of those slices. Here is an example of a commercial live pack that accomplishes this:

You think so? Now can you tell me how the chain is created? How is it that you can apply different parameters to a single device that change based on, what appears to be, a step sequence? In the video, there doesn't appear to be more then one beat repeat.

The Rack has 8 channels. Each channel has a beat repeat. It appears that there is only one beat repeat at a time because each channel of the rack he clicks on has only one instance of beat repeat.

Ok, I get that but how do you cycle each channel in sequence of eighth notes?

For instance, assuming you have an arrangement in 4/4, how do you cycle through each channel in sequence of eighths (tempo synced)? What if I want to do the same thing in 16ths? What is the driver of functionality for this feature? If I'm disconnected from something simple, could you explain how this works?

As you would notice, he has the audio routing on the beat repeats set to "Gate". This causes ONLY the effected portion to play for that specific instance of beat repeat. This means that if I had an Interval of one bar, offset to 4/16. Gate amount "4/16". I would get the following results:

Every single bar played through
At the 6/26 (3/8) point in the bar
I would get a 2/16 (1/8) length amount of
buffered audio. (no additional audio, only blank/mute until that specific sliver comes up)

Every single bar played through -1 Bar interval setting

At the 4/16 (2/8) point in the bar -(there is a partial flaw here that i will explain*)

I would get a 2/16 (1/8) length amount of -The Gate knob actually controls 'original audio portion + repeats. so for 1/8, you need 2/8. for 1/16 you need 2/16. and so on

buffered audio. -buffered being that it does not play the original sound at all, ONLY the slices of audio after, and within the amount of which the gate knob is set.


* the problem with this plugin. is that there will always be a delay. It uses ONLY buffered audio. you could maybe add a delay effect by almost a full bar, but then you have to trigger your clips a full bar in advance, before it 'catches up'. The delay amount is equal to that of the amount of slice used. so if you use a 1/8th slices, your downbeat would be 1/8th offbeat. (ick haha)

thats why i like my slicing method a little more

using auto panners to cut it down into beats

its not perfect but its an effect so i dont mind

i also created another version that takes more cpu, but runs better live, i havent created a live pack for it yet, but if you like that one and would like to see the barebones of the new one ill send it
