Yikes!! Snapy crackle pops etc... (Live 8)

Post by funky shit » Tue Dec 29, 2009 6:45 pm

Just installed Live 8.1.. all works well (if i dont touch the mouse).
If i zoom into the track in arrangement veiw, browse devices, drag intruments, drag samples, more or less interact with live at al.. it crackles.. (un-listenable). i mean its probably what hell would sound like.
The CPU doesn't be affected tho.

Im on Win7 and Live 7 works perfectly.

If you're adventurous enough to try out a demo, I suggest using the latest beta or to wait a few days as its release is imminent.
8.1.1 is a nice step up from 8.1.

I got a similar problem. Crackle pops and clicks in Ableton Live 8.1.1, everything is fine in 8.0.4

Using a Fireface 400 and windows XP.

Any ideas? Thanks,

Steve

I had the same problem when I first installed 8. I was told by Ableton to delete my preference/configuration file. After doing this, the problem was gone. Had to redo my Ableton settings though.

From what ive seen this isnt a fix for everyone, but in some situations it is the solution. So I suggest saving a backup of your config file if you decide to try it, just so you dont have to resetup everything if it doesnt work.

I found the solution! For me at least...

If you go to "control panel" and then "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" under the "audio" tab. There is a Sound Playback "Default device". If this is the same as in ableton then you get a conflict and cracks and pops.

If you set this to another output Fireface 400 Adat 1+2 for example, in my case. You can still route that output to analog 1+2 (or any other) in the fireface mixer.

And in ableton 8.1.1 everything is clean.

Strange though that 8.0.4 didn't have an issue with this...

woop!

Glad you got it working, but just in case anything changes the best way to locate your preferences.cfg file is to select "Get support" from the help menu and then click the link "Show preferences folder"
