Techno/minimal based around jazz musicianship

Post by flowdesigner » Tue Dec 29, 2009 12:58 pm

Hi,

I heard some pretty cool techno where all the chord progressions were "jazz chords" and a bassline that sounded like some generative evergoing "jazz bass". But this was techno/minimal stuff and not house

What artists make this stuff?

Not sure if it's exactly what you are looking for but you might dig Erdbeerschnitzel's "Pathetic Party" release.

Some of the tracks could work in a minimal techno or minimal house set - but it's not really a genre specific release. One thing it definitely is is fantastic and it has, in my opinion at least, quite a jazzy feel.

Maybe this is what you are looking for, maybe not, but it's good stuff either way.

His "Tracknames I can't pronounce" release is more a straight 4/4 type of deal, quite good as well.

Both are free downloads.

Anuone else has some recomendations?

Im basically searching for techno/minimal where the "jazz stuff" is programmed and synthesized. Not like a dance track with a jazzy saxophone solo.
Cheers

Check out some F-Communication releases, Carl Craig, Fourtet. Not all techno/minimal or "jazz stuff" is programmed but that's the closest i could think of. Other than established artits there's many many many new people doing what you're looking for.

Anybody interested in electronic music with jazz influences definitely should listen to Humcrush's Hornswoggle album, lots of great songs on there and quite a distinct voice (not a literal voice, it's instrumental) as well.

Minilogue also have a side-project with Decoy called IMPS
It's jazz influenced, but also has some instruments with the drum machines (everything is recorded from improvisation I think) maybe it's not what you're looking for.
It's a great album, lots of fender rhodes! 8)
