D-Cam Synth Squad is a modern take on analogue classic tones.

Alchemy- sample mangler, and well received.

this guy pretty much nailed it. these are above and beyond anything else that is out there...
Except Omnisphere.

probably true but since I never used it I cant vouch for it.

Hi Tom. actually im going against the flow on this (as usuall)

Im not digging anything that brings a lot of noise to the workflow, and not Ram/cpu eaters in general.

If you like Massive, you would really like Surge. Its really the fastest surgical sound design tool ive ever come across, and ive been around a while. You do need to create the presets yourself. But let me tell you, just before I met you in Tokyo, I did something like 70 killahrg!1!!11 presets in just one day with Surge, and they became part of every track after that. While I did 3 on Zebra at the same amount of time. If you listened to our live set, I was using Surge a lot.

Synplant is also really great, but in a totally different way. Toyish and simple in use, yet its really great for quick and unique atmospheres.

others? Meh, I don't know.. Maybe ACE for its great sound and semi nice workflow, but its got only 2 lfos. And the patching is really cluttered compared to the simplicity of Surge. With Surge its just one click assign, and no visible virtual cables or cable sockets.

Took me 3 minutes to create a singing cat, using 6 LFOs and 4 envelopes with Surge.

I swear its so easy and fast, most people haven't "got" it yet.

These threads are always ridiculous. At some point every softsynth ever released is mentioned. I honestly believe that some people can't help but mention something that hasn't already been mentioned just so they'll be the first.

I don't know, I kinda like these lists. Kinda like a top ten movies of the year list, you haven't seen most of them, disagree with some of them, but they're always fun to read. From this and a couple other recent threads, I learned I might have to buy one more soft synth, Zebra.

gotta chime in here for both Omnisphere and Alchemy.....

really for the most fun I'd say pick up Alchemy....wonderful GUI, amazing sample-based synth for great mangling/design fun....camelaudio have a first-class synth here, along with Massive I'd say sound design possibilities are limitless. Check it out.
