once again, i have to sit and watch and wait as the installer reinstalls [and clutters up my library/hard drive] products i do not own, and do not wish to own. (collision, tension, analog, etc. etc.) seriously, ableton people, you need a standardized installation routine that allows users to select/deselect which options are to be installed. your product is too big and too mature for the blanket "install everything" approach.

bitching aside, thanks for the bug-squashing.

I'm not entirely sure why your license and/or splash screens appear as they do, but I'm working on it.

One question: did you purchase the boxed version of Suite or the download version?

Thanks,
Just to add another voice, I couldn't get the Suite screen to appear as instructed either.

In the end I just downloaded the Suite installer and reinstalled.

I'm displaying as owning a license for Live 8 + 8 instruments, not Suite (both in my user area on the website and in Live prefs).

(I purchased the download version btw).

Cheers,

Alan

So, just to make sure I understand: after you downloaded and installed the Suite installer, you then saw the black and white splash screen, but not before?

Yeah i purchased the download 8 suite too. I was never quite sure on this one. When i boot up with the "show demo options" mode on in preferences it asks me if i would like to demo the Live 8 suite. Which i dont really understand. And in the about section it just says live 8, and i am licensed for Live 8 plus 8 instruments rather than the suite. I presumed that this was perhaps just the way you guys did it?. All my instruments are unlocked and what not, its just one of those things that is a tad annoying , never sure if i am missing out on a shit something. Thanks for looking into it Dennis. :D

This is the same with me. If i download the normal version i get the colour version, if i download the suite version i get the black and white version. Doesn't seem to be anything to do with the license but just rather which package you download i think

Thanks,
Thanks for reply and yes like others I have purchased the download version of Live Suite 8.
Also my Ableton licence page says Live 8 + 8 Instruments instead of Live Suite, so it is not only "splash" screen of Live, but clearly I and others have been "robbed" of Live Suite 8 licence... :(

No, this is a misunderstanding. You have not been robbed.

Suite isn't really a separate application. It's a bundle that includes Live and a number of add-ons. If you have the add-ons in your license and are able to use them in Live, then for all intents and purposes you have Suite. There is zero distinction, either in the code or the documentation, between Suite and "Live + add-ons." This is simply the way the license webpage appears - mine looks the same.

That being said, there ARE some differences between the download and boxed versions of Suite. In particular, the Essential Instrument Collection 2 and Session Drums add-ons are not available in the download version. This is primarily an issue of size - these are huge sample-based collections.

That's correct Dennis. I tried the tip you mentioned first but it had no effect. When I saw that owning 'Suite' wasn't mentioned I thought I'd install the Suite download and it was only then that I could see the monochrome splash page.

Cool, i thought that was the case, think i'll get the boxed version next time anyway. Its been years since i've had a nice fat manual and i'd like to take a look at the EIC and session drums collection.

Best,
In that case how can we obtain (regain) the "Suite" version other than buying It again!?

The only issue you should be experiencing is with the color of the splash screen. There should be absolutely no other difference.

Regardless, I'm still trying to figure out why this might have changed for you.

Thanks again for reply.
BTW; i wouldn't care less for the splash screen, what I care about is my Live 8 Suite licence - It doesn't exist anymore... :x

man, what dennis is trying to tell you is that there is not such a thing as the live 8 Suite licence.
if you buy live Suite, then on the website and in the Live's preferences, it is written :
Live version : Live 8
Software instruments : operator, sampler, etc ...
Sampled instruments : drum machins, latin percussion, and more if you got the boxed suite version.

So don't worry mate ;)

For the slpashscreen color problem, I had it too before so now I just download the suite update version, it just take 1 hours more to download but I got the right spashscreen...

Tkx ableton for this long list of bugfixes you made a good choice to focus on that.

But what about selling a license? I own a license for Live 8, Sampler and Operator. When I upgrade to Live 8 Suite can I sell my Sampler and Operator license and still use them from my Suite license?

At the moment my account page shows Live 8 + 2 Instruments. When I upgrade to Suite it should show Live 8 Suite + 2 Instruments, right or?

Hmm interesting point. But i think when you upgraded to suite you would have got a discount as you already owned sampler and operator, as least i think thats how it works no?
