Works for me, and the previous version most certainly was unusable. Quite an improvement I think.

One version to rule them all?
Re: So is 8.1.1 the one or what, is it Lives Highlander version?
My highlander version for live performance has been 8.0.5
not going to update unless I have a problem or if they finally make "lock to current control surface" midi mappable for the APC. From the looks of it, that won't happen for a while, if ever.

still get bullshit C++ visual errors when changing to some sets. No response by anyone on the subject even though there are a few of us suffering from it

I am still using 8.09 I am feeling brave today and will download it

Absolute headless horse.
i am getting out of memory errors when trying to freeze stuff so I can add more au's to a project.
it crashes when trying to open other projects to drag files in.
Melodyne editor crashes live when i put it on heavy load live sets.
There are various other AUs that have repeatable crashes.
An it's using 2.5 gigs of system ram on projects where almost eveything is frozen.
i have been emailing support for a while.
I hope the next version sorts out thes issues as they are repeatable and I have sent them the alp files.
From the guys at Spectrasonics it would seem that the issue is how much ram live is taking up but if everything is frozen then this should be released back to the system. . .
Fuck knows.
All I know is that I have wasted a month to two months because of ableton and their buggy software.
Ti's great that they are sorting stuff out but i feel absolutely done over by this company as they released software that doesn't work as it SHOULD AND HAS HAD MAJOR ISSUES FOR THE LAST 9 MONTHS.
I am just glad that i didn't upgrade when it first came out.
I will be happy that I can work when it's finally out of beta but I also feel seriously aggrieved that i have been a beta tester for them on my own time and that a couple of projects I have been working on have been severely hampered by the fact live crashes constantly.

I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

about freezing tracks and memory consumption:
This is actually a bit interesting... should freezing tracks release memory? I'm not so sure; in my head, freezing is used to take the strain off the CPU; say you have a VST synth that takes alot of CPU juice: freezing the track with the power-hungry synth won't actually unload the synth from memory; however it will convert it to an audio track so that the CPU won't use as many cycles to "compute" the sound.. The reason I think for not unloading the synth from memory is to make the process of unfreezing the track fast; since all the information about what racks you used etc. are still referenced. If you want to remove all instances and free all memory, I think you have to consolidate the track after freezing it... this removes any references to the VST's/effects/whatever used and *should* free up the used memory.
This is at least how I percieve the freezing/consolidate features, so I don't think that just freezing a track should automatically free up memory

I was on 8.09 too, but I downloaded and installed 8.1.1 a few days ago and it's been good so far.Rave wrote:I am still using 8.09 I am feeling brave today and will download it

still golden on 8.0.4, but i think it may be time to take a risk and update my version. I keep all my previous live versions so if it fails i just go back.

problem is you can't because 8.1 introduced a different file format.Bleep Blop Ima Robot wrote:still golden on 8.0.4, but i think it may be time to take a risk and update my version. I keep all my previous live versions so if it fails i just go back.
that is why i waited for 8.1.1, and so far it's OK, but i did not stressed it very much yet... well let's see...

kinda makes the freeze function a bit pointless though. It takes ages for me to freee stuff sometimes, so a 10 second wait while he application reloads the plug in data would be fine.
if that is he case then it would be helpful if someone at Ableton had pointed this out to me when Iwas emailing them back at the start of december.
The ting is I have managed to load more than the acceptable amount of plugs using freeze so i don't think that is the case.
it's just way more unstable now.

Hi folks,
I'm sorry some of you are continuing to have problems with 8.1.1.
I've passed this thread on to our support team and asked them to take a look at your issues. Please note that they will be out of the office until January 3rd.

Thanks Dennis.
I'm still having trouble.
- I can't load any of the EIC without it it freezing.
- I am also getting CPU spikes and audio cut out on really small sets without any VSTs.

Re: So is 8.1.1 the one or what, is it Lives Highlander version?
I think it is the worst one yet for me. Crashes every 5 minutes. Just now, I touched the pan control for one of the tracks while it was playing, and it crashed (it also crashed when I opened the session). Earlier, it crashed when I tried to slice a Rex loop to a new MIDI track on a brand new session.
I have been trying to stick it out with Live, as no other DAW's really do what live does so well, but it's getting harder to harder to put up with this...
The weird thing is, I have never had performance issues with any Live 8 release (no crackling audio or CPU weirdness). I have just had constant crashing in every single iteration since 8.0.
