I can also recommend these video tutorials:
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... s+tutorial

Not strictly prog-oriented but shows house music drum programming in a pretty in-depth way

I want to know if the guys that are making mashup mixes or mashup remixes or whatever you call it are they paying the rights to use the acapellas or are they just doing it without permission.

because I want to make a mashup mix using lady gaga's acapella but I don't want to get hit with copyright penalties.

thx for all the feedback... i have taken everything you all said into consideration and have been working at it to get the sound i like. i have been working on collecting different samples and layering them, getting interesting sounds, some work out and some dont. deadmau5 xfer kit sounded tempting, but was afraid i'd sound like everyone else. but definitely keep the feedback flowing, and thanks for helping me out :)

Hope I am not too late.

I have been taking a break from actually producing any new material at the moment and have found some great tutorials on the internet that I think may help you.

Go to Groove3.com http://www.groove3.com/str/ableton-live-training - Here they have many training videos based around ableton Live 6/7/8 that will help you on building drums, bass, synth and so on for you tracks. DJ/Producer/Remixer Timothy Allen also hosts a series on there called Producing House Music with Ableton Live. There is an in depth tutorial on drums and just recently he has added a Synth and Bass tutorial in the same series which also is worth a look at.

Another company I have found is Sonic Academy http://www.sonicacademy.com - They also have tutorial Videos for Ableton Live, but something else that you may be interested in is their 'How to get that sound tutorials. Go to http://www.sonicacademy.com/Videos for their list of genre specific titles such how to make sweedish house and so on.

www.samplemagic.com
There is also a book that has just been released called The Secrets of House Music Production which has been released by Sample Magic. This booked has been said to be the next best thing to KLF's The Manual and that it is predictible that nothing will top this book this year - Well worth a look - but not cheap though!

You may also want to have a look at the sample cd's whilst you are there. you'll find exactly what you need and all the samples are top notch.

Hope all this infomation helps, have fun!!
