Routing Audio in to ableton
Hello
I am using Traktor scratch pro with an Audio 8 soundcard,
I want to route the audio from Traktor in to Ableton then back out to my djm800,
My reason for this is i want to use the efx and samples from ableton but continue to use my normal mixer
Please can anyone help with this,
I am slightly more forward,
I can see what I think is the music playing in ableton from traktor, Should I see wave forms?
also the output from ableton does that have to go back to the output channel on my audio 8 sound card,
Then does this plug back in the back of my djm800
Thanx

Use Soundflower (OSX) or Virtual Audio Cable (PC) to run Traktor into Ableton. They both basically allow you to send audio from one application to another (I use Soundflower to route mlr AES into ableton). Then you can just run the output of ableton to your djm800. I may be overlooking something as I'm not that familiar with traktor.

What is "it"?
What is "out the way"?
edit: What do you have open? Soundflower? VAC?
Re: Routing Audio in to ableton
I'm not really familiar with the dmj800 but is it just a standard mixer or can it function as an audio out from the computer? If so it should just show up in your audio outputs in Ableton. If not select an output from the Audio 8 as the output in Ableton, then plug in that output into an input in the dmj800 and it should be fine. I use Traktor but haven't used Soundflower in a little while and never used it with Traktor. But the channels from soundflower should show up as outputs in Traktor and you should be able to select them as inputs in Ableton.
Re: Routing Audio in to ableton
I don't know how the layout is on soundflower, but I would assume you are hoping to get two or four pairs of stereo channels INTO Ableton Live?
so, 1/2, 3/4 (two stereo channels) going into two Ableton Live audio channels.
Those then have their fx. and either Output to 1/2, and 3/4 or to Return channels or other audio channels, all of which either go Output 1/2, 3/4 Instead of going out to Master. (this gives you freedom to use your mixer controls)
Lastly, you probably want an extra channel (you said you want to use samples in ableton live) that goes output 5/6 also to a channel on your mixer.
And maybe a Return channel that goes out 7/8 that is nothing but fx (reverbs/delays).
Negative side of using fx return channel is that you can't use your faders to control how the audio goes through to the returns.
I may have just typed a mess of gibborish.. just things to consider heheh.

Re: Routing Audio in to ableton
I don't really like doing this but if you're having issues with soundflower you could also output from the Audio 8 in Traktor, plug that output into an input on the Audio 8 and use that as your input for Ableton. It uses up a couple of hardware inputs/outputs but if you aren't running much else through your system it would work as well.

Re: Routing Audio in to ableton
Thats exactly it
I have 2 Audios in ableton,
Forget about traktor just now
So audio 1 is for channel 1
Audio 2 for channel 2
I have VAC set up with 2 virtual cables

Re: Routing Audio in to ableton
can you try 16 channel mode? In Ableton Live try having Track 1 go out to channel 1/2 (instead of master). and Track 2 go out to 3/4 (instead of master). Connect those to your audio mixer. Test that out to see if it plays first.

Re: Routing Audio in to ableton
I have set Audio 1 to Channel 9/10 for incoming an 5/6 output (on my audio
then a phono lead from that to the channel of my mixer
I can actually hear whats being played through ableton but unable to select efx an such like
Feel getting closer to it being fixed
VAC is set to LINE 2 VAC
Wave Out is set to Channel 5/6 audio 8
Is this correct
P.S Can constantly hear Trial being spoken
