Syncing two powerbooks via ethernet?

Post by flux » Wed Mar 16, 2005 5:51 pm

Anyone done this?
I want to be able to jam with a friend, with one laptop as master and the other as slave via ethernet, tried iMidi but one of the laptops crashes so maybe we have the settings wrong.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Yes, there is a way to do this... I started a topic about it, too, and someone posted a very informative link which seems to have vanished from my bookmarks. =/

Anyways, I did a search for midi over ethernet and found this interesting little site... maybe it could be done with hardware?

'why not just slave them both to a midi clock source?'.
Because i want as few leads as possible!

It would appear that this is possible using ethernet and iMidi, i just can't figure out the routing...

It would be so cool if Ableton built this feature into the app itself, after all, it is supposed to be software to jam with.

Thanks' for the replies.

with iMidi there is anything to route.simply connect the lan cable, launch it fist on one PB and then on the other. on your PB you'll the name of your mate's PB and vice versa.
then, put one live in EXT mode and you're done.

all the best and stay groovy
