APC40 creating high pitched noise
Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
I've already talked about it with them. Look back a few posts...

Well, important to make your voice heard.
Got a reply straight away. Apparently it's not a fault. Please don't return it.
I'll give it till the weekend. If I still want to claw my eyes out, it's going.

Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
FYI: I spoke with my local electronics repair shop. The guy was familiar with Akai products and APCs. He says he knows what the noise is. He says it comes from an internal power supply, and that there is no way to fix it. And, he said a new power supply wouldn't help.
For me, the benefits of the APC outweigh the noise; I think I'll try to get used to it.
The APC is such a pleasure to use, and it greatly enhances my work flow. I'm kind of "hooked" now.
If anyone has any tips for "coping" with the noise, please tell.

Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
Maybe using the NativeKontrol App helps? - If this really should fix it, there hopefully should be a way to fix it for the Abletons by modifying the control-script?!Akshara wrote:
6. Closed Live, opened the MT Player with NativeKontrol's CL2+TC2 enabled, opened Live and the frequency completely disappeared. Switched between all of the CL2 modes, no noise at all.

Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
We could maybe test this ourselves by installing the MT player (w/o NK), and setting up the MIDI settings like they are NK manual to see if that helps.
There's a demo MT player on Bome's website.
I might try that later when I get home.

Please do let us know hoe you get on!
Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
I tried opening the MT Player without the NK plugin to test that, but it doesn't let me select "No Preset" and keeps defaulting to one of the NK plugins. Don't want to uninstall and mess things up here either.
To setup Live's Midi Preferences similar to the way they are in the NK manuals, one will need to manually install the custom APC40 DR script, which is linked to in the troubleshooting section.
Would be interested to know if it works for you.

Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
honestly I don't understand,
When I compose or play music, I don't bother my neighbourhood with ultra Decibels but I like a valuable volume to listen and play.
I really don't hear Da Noize in such circumstances.
Ok Launchpad has no power Unit and makes no noise AND SO WHAT!
Be happy with it or a resale would be the best. Make another happy guy who will surely not bother with a noise but rather extremly use the apc40.
I'm not making a whole debate here and can understand the worries...
but for such a detail, come on guys let's go make music!

Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
Sadly I have spent a lot of money making my studio "clean". Any noise is a constant itch.
Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
I think mine's going back. Screw it. None of my other gear makes noise like that. If/when they figure out how to make APCs that don't sing, I'll buy one.

Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
I feel very much the same way. I pinned some hopes on this thing and it doesn't inspire much confidence to switch it on and hear 'weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee'. Amongst all the arguing, there is an important point made in this thread. The noise this thing kicks out is high-pitched and slicing right through low-level listening to full tracks. I find it really fatiguing, which at least shows my ears are still working well. It *isn't* like fan noise. I'm not concerned about it coming through mics, but it really is unnerving sitting right next to it and I can hardly put it under a desk.jbone1313 wrote:I think mine's going back. Screw it. Did Akai assume the APC40 would appeal mainly to DJs who have spent their lives in loud clubs? I've now read similar concerns with some of their other products, so it just seems like poor electronics and corner-cutting.
Re: APC40 creating high pitched noise
obviously it's only some units.
