APC40 - Map Bank Select to Knobs?

Post by brucek » Tue Jan 12, 2010 11:57 am

Just got an APC40. For the most part, I'm very pleased with the functionality.

However, I'm not happy with the clicky bank select buttons. Is there a way to midi-map the bank select function to one (or two for hotizontal scrolling) of the endless encoders? Has anyone done this?

Another question regarding midi map on the APC. Can I remap one set of the send knobs to do track volume with the endless encoders? The issue here is the static up-down volume faders (obviously) wont show me the actual volume that the track is set to in ableton. I'd like to be able to visualize it on the apc.

Thanks for your help!

Well, the issue is that I cant 'click' the bank select in ableton when configuring maps.

For the volume control on the track control, I have not attempted it, for fear of breaking something.

i looked it up and i dont think the bank select buttons can be mapped in live, since their use is to shift the scenes selected on the apc40 and arent an actual feature in live. but if the controller is like any of the akai controllers i have it should have came with its own editor and you might be able to change it from there.

i definitely wouldnt worry about remapping the volume control to the track knob, as long as you dont forget to remap the track control to something else so you can still use it (id just switch the two) you shouldnt have any problems. you can always easily undo the change either from live or again use the editor it should have came with. it wont cause any problems to the live or the hardware even if it doesnt work out how you planned.

In case anyone is interested. The folks over at NativeKontrol work magic with stuff like this. They have some presets that will blow your mind. I advise anyone with an APC40 to see what NK has to offer.

Fell in love with my APC twice in one week. :-P

I may be speaking out of turn but is it the red box you mean to map to a knob? if so i'm afraid you'd need a third party translator piece of software... Bomes is probably the best at this as it allows the APC to still believe it's attached directly to Ableton....

Click on the banner below to see what you can achieve with bomes....
