ableton freezes on launch screen 99% of time

after setting up and saving my default template in 8.1.1 ableton opens very slowly and unreliably.

I reset the template to a basic one and still the program almost never opens.

the only time it will open (and still not reliably) is when I open one of the templates in user/library/application support/ableton/library/templates.

any ideas?

heh. cleaned up my cache and it seems to be resolved.
