i think there's plenty of space left unoccupied. in dance music there hasn't been much venturing from 4/4. and if it has it's been some esoteric crap that has not groove. make it groove and through some pan flutes in it.

he is tptaly unoriginal? you really cant say that.. and he is not ripping in the sense that he cuts parts out of other films...
so he is not sampling.. some kind of resinthesis ..maybe a cover version.. but not even a remix..

you forget that the market is flooded with useless records..what makes it difficult for people to find good music... what leads to only comercial music in radios and to much bad tracks in clubs.. the dying of underground labels.. distributers.. and musicans..

its not the problem that someone copys a track.. or whatever... but why releasing it ? to proove what?

bands that covered the beatles or the stones in the past dont really tried to get that stuff out on a record..at least most of them didnt..

what people want to show with records that are a patchwork of others people sound , beats and hooks? that they are great in combining things?

why not become a dj than? ,, more profit there.

@ 3PHASE, you're points might be somewhat useful, but still, if you don't post your own tunes, you really have no weight when you condemn people who express their take on the process of making them. For all anybody knows you can't produce a fart. So ..

well, what the op said was not really about taking other tracks, mashing them a bit up, and trying to sell them as own.

what he talks about is, you work on something, and then note it just sounds similar to a tune you like, from some other artist.

but this is normal. if you try to get a certain style working, no matter if it's electro house, trance, jazz, rock, or something else, then you will automatically copy much. you copy the instruments, you copy the rhythms, the basic track structures, and the type of tonality the track gets.

there's no "i do it all new and in a way it never existed before" and then still fit into a style that .. exists. to fit a style it has to reuse parts of what that style is built upon.

i don't care much about it. i know i've built my tracks 100% on my own (or nearly). if i get something that remembers me of a track i like, then, for me, that's a good thing. and i know such tracks will be preferred by others. people don't like new innovative things. they want the same, a bit different.

and to start the panik mode of a lot of artists: music isn't much about creativity.. it is, but not in the "i can redefine everything" way. if you design a car, you can be creative, too. it still has to be able to drive on a road, has 4 weels, windows, etc..

In my recent nomsi experiements I've had many unrelated comments drawing comparisons with Talking Heads and Ian Dury (in style I imagine, not skill).

These comments are on different forums by people who don't know each other and listened to my music independently of each other and without knowing each others comments.

That isn't strange in itself. What is strange is that I never listened to Talking Heads of Ian Dury....yet somehow I end up sounding like them.

explain me where in the original post he talks about stealing ideas? he talks about playing around, and when getting something that sounds good, it just sounds more or less like something he heard elsewhere (most likely from someone he likes, is an inspiration for him).
