i agree.. if you play house on a slower speed you are defently in the reggae domain.. reggae/dub and house are related very closely..Shillelagh Law wrote:So what's your outlook on Reggae 3phase ?
There's a huge 'riddim' culture there where the music is, ripped ? no not ripped, shared ? passed along in the community ? tweaked ? ... either way sharing riddims and re-inventing them with different lyrics/mc styles and dubbing it is what it's all about.
I for one love that shit, but again, I think it's quite a unique musical culture that wouldn't translate so well to other styles.
also dub is the grand-daddy of modern dance music imo.
And i dont think that working within a style and exploring it or bringing it further is ripping, thats rather culture.. similar like in house music where certain grooves are shared but you dare to have your own "lyrics" .. you dont steal the hooks..or you are lame..
In times reggae was more popular there was some serious ripping from the side of the music industry going.. just done so badly that you wouldnt recocnize it as reggae..

bad copys and totally formated tracks hurt on the dancefloor even more...Tone Deft wrote:most people do not listen to electronic music.
and dj´s are pretty blind when it comes to originality,. they pretty much depend on what is going on on themarket because tehy allways want to play new records.. so as less cerativ the producers as less dancing and too much drinking instead for me...
i ve a very personal reason.. its much cheaper going out when the music is good

In this case it's electronic stuff, but it can and does happen with any music, the style doesn't matter.

so what's that then .... also a rip off?

An egret is any of several herons, most of which are white or buff, and several of which develop fine plumes (usually milky white) during the breeding season. Many egrets are members of the genera Egretta or Ardea which contain other species named as herons rather than egrets. The distinction between a heron and an egret is rather vague, and depends more on appearance than biology. The word "egret" comes from the French word "aigrette", referring to the long filamentous feathers that seem to cascade down an egret's back during the breeding season.3phase wrote:bad copys and totally formated tracks hurt on the dancefloor even more...Tone Deft wrote:most people do not listen to electronic music.

I listen to a shit-tonne of electronic music from yester-year to present day and to my ears it happens all the time with the more mainstream/metrosexual sub genres of house music. if you're into producing that style, I think you should get used to sounding like you ripped someone off - unless you're the next Plastikman (r.i.p)
if it's got to be house, give me acid house with a pair of balls or fuck off
anyway I'll leave more indepth house theory/discussions to the experts.

Re: Ripping other artists off!
christ, how long have you 'known' me? make all the funny jabs you want, you really think I don't know?
basic history...
house came from the Warehouse in Chicago, it started as disco with a drum machine under it, then a TB303.
ska was the blues infused with Carribean influences. then a hot summer came about and they slowed it down, this created reggae. dub came after that when the Jamaican producers got trickier with their production tricks, remixing tracks.
ultimately most genres have combined at one point or another but I never thought of house and reggae being similar.

Re: Ripping other artists off!
I didn't ask for the chronology dumbass...
I asked do you know enough about either to dispute it ?
by know, I mean just how much reggae/dub/house have you been exposed to ?
this is something even the most accurate wikipedia entry can't help you with.
anyway to answer your question: Yes, I agree with it emphatically. A few posts up I said dub is the grand-daddy of modern dance music. And I stand by that.

Well, why don't you dispute the statement...now that should be entertaining.

Re: Ripping other artists off!
they share the offbeat pronounciation for example.. there is a thin red line from ska to house in that regard...
however reggae was influenced by the blues via rock n roll..I am not really sure where the humpta element comes from.. its probably just very international because its clother to the heart beat than what a jazz drummer is doing...
ska is related to swing music.. swing music is related to house music ..theese days maybe more than ever
before it was called swing i think there was ragtime. which was some kind of party dance blues.. with the good ol house piano... just played better.. and sounding more like ska.. because of the brass sections... So all the styles have theier roots in the mississippi delta?
i guess thats what happens when people dont rip but just bring an idea further or to other places.. a big amount of related styles over centurys
