Thanks Sub Funk but with your english and all the steps involved, I think I will wait on Ableton to automate the flippin buttons.
The other alternative is to research completely what you are talking about and currently I just am not able to. I do most of this forum chat while at work.

if you haven't already, please make a feature request.

maybe you should just bounce the track to a new track and record it that way. you can record track off presses but I can't think of a way to turn off all tracks but one.

it's something Live should be able to do, solos are fun to play with.

Guess I'll just have to do a feature request, but how long would we have to wait?

at the very top of the forum is a 'sticky' entitled 'Quality' wherein Ableton has said they're going to halt new product development to make Live better. I wouldn't expect it for a while, if ever.

AFAIK they take our requests and prioritize them into one huge list. I'm sure this is on that list but IMO it could always use a few more votes to raise its priority.

IMO, find another way to work and move on.

I already have solo buttons on the NanoKontrol, and currently I dont need any more control features. I have had the nano for almost a year and have just begun to really look more into that aspect of my mixing. Of course all my projects are recording/studio based and not live.

Very good idea jake noise. However, as blackbeltzjones pointed out it might not be good enough for "old style dubbing". The main drawback is that you would have to do this in clip view and this would entail more steps in the process of soloing which limits significantly the flexibility in dubbing.
Hey Evon, I am still trying to understand - are you asking for an automation envelope in arrangement view or just a way to assign the solo button to a controller? You can already assign the solo button to a controller/key in Session and Arrangement views in Live 7 and 8.

As far as automation envelopes in arrangement view, how would muting - all the other tracks but the one you need - give a different sonic result than soling the track you want? Or is it purely for work flow benefit - that you want to be able to draw a solo envelope (instead of pressing the solo button yourself) in a section of the track for previewing the results right away?

I just found a trick for getting a solo automation envelope - using the x-fader automation in arrangement view. The x-fader has an automation envelope on the master channel and you can assign A, B or None on individual tracks. So here is an example - in arrangement view:

1. Assign all tracks to B - with the automation envelopes in arrangement view - for the full length of the project
2. Assign the x-fader on the master channel to B - for the full length of the project
3. When you want to automate a track to be solo - draw A on both the track and the master

voila!

I want to automate the solo buttons in Session View.

Great!!! but from your solution I know that you have no idea what dubbing is... but thanks anyway.
Seriously though..that was actaually my last resort in the project I have just finished. I had to compromise by rendering all of my rythm section including my bass track to one track and use the method you described. It worked but not the ideal situation for dubbing, where one wants to solo each track when required and treat each one with some effects all in time with the beat.
