I was hoping for something that wouldn't require me to purchase Serato hardware, but I suppose that wouldn't make much sense (business wise) for Serato. I think I am going to go with Ms.Pinky instead :[]

You ever used Ms Pinky? I jumped on it when M4L came out and someone made a Pinky Patch. After using Traktor for the last 2 years, Ms. Pinky was a real dissapointment. Not near as responsive. To me Ms. Pinky feels like what it looked like to me years ago before I bought Traktor, a cheap hack. Sure I can do some video manipulation, but nothin gto write home about.

:] No I have never used it. I just want a cheap way to mix Vinyl and MP3's. What was wrong with your Ms. Pinky experience?

(Approximate prices)

Live Suite - $700
2 Turntables - $600
Mixer - $400
Interface - $300

= Still no way to mix mp3's as if they were/with vinyl...

Ms. Pinky is < $100, whereas investing in Serato will cost you $600... I never knew musicians were expected to be so wealthy :'(

You might be right. After learning some M4L and continuing to use Traktor routed to Ableton, I am not so anxious about the Serato Partnership. If I was a kick ass scratch DJ I may think otherwise, but at the moment I am content with Traktor, Live & M4L.

Would I invest a reasonable amount of money for a plug-in that adds some DJ software specific functionality to Live natively? Mmmmmmaybe.

Would I invest in DJ specific software that is inferior in many ways to Traktor so I can use session view in it? Fuck no.

Well hopfully you were not expecting to get Vinyl Control after spending all that. kidding.
No, Ms. Pinky is just what I expected. Terrible vinyl response even after adjusting the "Threshold" and "Sharpness." I have really tried to give it my best with Pinky, and after the M4L Pinky update I got really excited thinking I had better browsing control. HOWEVER Ms. Pinky just dosent map well, the response is not even in the same league as Traktor. Everytime I think, F it, I'm gonna make this work and just get used to it, I end up missing the functionality and response I have with Traktor. If I was just throwing on a piece of mp3Virtual Vinyl, I'd be happy with pinky. However I use Traktor routed into Ableton to scratch cuts, manipulate loops, juggle, etc. I can just mix in an MP3 better with Ableton on it's own. SO, in conclusion, Pinky is no comparison. As little as I have messed with Serato, I imagine Ms Pinky cant hold a candle to it. If there's one purchase I really jumped the gun on it was Ms Pinky. I could have saved myself 100 bucks if I would have just visited the pinky forums for a few days and realized how little activity there was. There may be die hard Pinky users who totally disagree, but thats been my experience. As far as I can tell Ms Pinky users are few and far between, making information and discussion, minimal in comparison. Tell me this, when was the last time you saw a DJ using Ms Pinky? I have never seen it in person, just the internet.

You have inspired my resistance!!! Put the nail in the Coffin YO! Unless I win the Lotto and just feel like buying up all kinds of gear. Then I'll buy a bunch of shit I'll never learn to really use.

I use serato and ableton. i mix and scratch. i spend a lot of time rendering samples,fx, loops etc to transport them back into serato to scartch and mix on the fly. i also love to do re-edits of mixes/ mash ups in ableton, but its been a bit of a pain in the arse up to now.
i can see why of lot of you are underwhelmed by this collab, but i thinks its fucking GREAT!
for me this cuts out so much of the bullshit i'd have to go through...man the idea of having an abes session in serato with my launchpad firing clips and mixing, scartching and juggking over the top of that well, for hip hop, funky breaks dnb and dubstep guys this is way ahead of what i was expecting...
and for mash ups having the mixtape option split the tracks for you and re-editing them is also an amazing advance.
i love the way technology makes the ideas in my head easier to commit to sound...
fucking great

Yeah, seems to be this news really benefits the people already using Serato to DJ with the most. For those of us who've been using Live for DJing, really doesn't add too much. At least not enough for most of us to get all that excited about. A lot of the Serato guys seemed thrilled though.

yeah i can understand that; i was expecting something more along the lines of traktor 4 deck mixing and on the fly looping and effects, and tempo locked beat matching.. and that would have been very cool...dj wise i only use live to straighten up wonky tempos and then bring them back into serato. i do think though that the intergration that they've given will lead to more in future updates. i mean i've been using serato for a while and it keeps on adding things with 0.x updates for free that really add to its functionality; i'm sure this will continue. and bear in mind that both serato and ableton do listen to their respective user bases..

You're starting to sound like one of those people who go out of their way to bash Apple computers, because deep down inside you know you really want one...
