Pitch, you've posted more in the past week than you have in all of 2009. lol.
What's up with that?

that's why this thing we do was once called recording. as in making a record of the moment. now its so often more building a simulation of the moment.
don't get me wrong - there's room for both the "capturing the moment" styles of music as well as the "building a sculpture" styles of music, but the amount of emotion in equals the amount of emotion out.
if you take the "sculptural" approach, you have to make sure that the initial inspiration doesn't get diluted, or forgotten, or covered up with layers of subsequent mediocre shit. the sculptural approach requires stamina. trust your feelings, be instinctive - as in use your instincts not your head/mind, and above all be honest with yourself about what you like and don't like about what you're hearing back in the monitors.
really good music isn't even music. it's something else entirely. it's a direct link from one person's psyche to anothers.
you summed it up real well there..
we take the patterns and emotions we see around us...
and transform them to patterns expressions that can then get transformed through the minds of others...
it's quite deep...
blues/rocknroll for instance is so simple and so powerful..
think about the packed stadiums dancing to 4 chord jams...
a lot of energy is created there... by moving air in audible patterns..
makes the crowd vibrate... etc etc...
and rhythm instantly opens up our channels...we just can't ignore it..
making live music is where it's at...!!!
that is why i usually shake my head if people (and that does account to electronic musicians more then to others) try to make things 'perfect'
music is not about being perfect, well it can't ever be.

I know that if I had a clear idea in my mind as to how exactly the song should sound, I could make it in one or two days, but I´ve been incredibly busy just with the colour of the sounds, equalizing, using corpus and grain delay, compressing that bassline with 3 compressors etc. By now the bassline and the drums are really fat, and I´ve come along some great minimal rythms. I´ve never worked as much on one track, but its been rewarding so far, cant wait to get that thing done but I don´t want to rush it, since I´ve been patient for so long already.
wav or it never happened.
or, rather
wav or it isn't happening.
or something.
I´m quite pleased with the result, but there was a point where I just didnt want to go on editing.

This a really interesting post!
I've just been totally battling with a track lately, changing it and changing it and f**king round and it wasn't really feeling very good about making music in general (why am I doing this!! gaaa),
but after a few days of really focusing, taking advice from people and also being disciplined about what im doing
(if it sounds good leave it alone!) its really starting to sound good and the enjoyment of making music has come flooding back.
I think It can be hard to express yourself with a computer and a bit of plastic with knobs and buttons
but once your on the 'creative roll' its still rewarding to get something good out the other end!
respect to pitch black and 3dot. well said indeed.

I'm having total opposite - Komplete 6 has Kompleted me.Jekblad wrote:just bought komplete 6. very happy with it.
i am realizing now that my music does not lack sounds, it lacks inspiration. And passion maybe.

PS i don't want to go to work 2mrw, or any other day for like at least 10 days.
In fact it's made me really aware of just how let down Ableton's content is by the extraordinarily unfortunate previewing system they have for it
Major Browser overhaul HAS to be a priority for Live 9.... I don't think I will Use many Ableton instruments or drum racks any more...it's just too much easier to use Battery and the other NI stuff. It sounds INSTANTLY wicked, with the NI synths, while with the ABleton content you either have to build the sounds yourself every time, or wait ages for the previewing and changing presets.
I actually like presets, they make life easier and prevent time wastage, but I still have no idea what most of the Ableton ones sound like because they are just too slow and inconvenient to try out
