My bet is that next comes APC-8 - pads go, faders remain
Re: Famous people who use the Akai APC-20!
I actually am not a fan of endless encoders for live use and the apc40 is too big for me to bring out to the typical live show so I had retired it to the studio and was considering buying a launchpad to use alongside some other controller with non-endless knobs (pots) so actually I am thinking that the apc20 is looking like a good bet for my situation.
If the apc20 and the launchpad are the same price then I'll get the akai. Sucks that it still has to use a power adaptor though.
But if you're someone that likes to mix and match controllers to attempt to emulate your perfectly envisioned setup then I think this is the way to go.
(not that I actually LIKE to mix and match controllers. I just have for years because no single controller seems to ever suit my exact setup needs)

It's not even bus powered? wtf? what a hunk of shit!timothyallan wrote:Bus power and I may have picked it up.
Not to knock on it just to knock on it, but if it can't be bus powered then GTFO!

What's with all the serious comments? You're supposed to write some cynical bollocks!
Re: Famous people who use the Akai APC-20!
I already own an APC40 so I'm not likely to buy the APC20. However, I do think it's a reasonable addition to the APC range and one that has the edge over Novation's Launchpad. The great weakness of the Launchpad, for my money, is its lack of transport controls. It's only useful for working with clips and pretty much nothing else.
The APC20, however, does retain the main transport controls of the APC40, although it puts them in a different place.
Personally, I'd like to see an even smaller addition to the range - presumably an APC10 - that can be used as a hand-sized mini-controller alongside Akai's LPK25 mini-keyboard controller in situations where portability and a small footprint are essential. It would have to run off USB bus power though.

I was mostly talking about ergonomics as well as knob preference. For live use I need Non-Endless knobs not endless encoders. The software has nothing to do with it.ShelLuser wrote:Seriously; in this context a controller is just as good as the software supporting it. Naturally can't get into details since I've got no idea what exactly you want or consider lacking.
I just need to get ahold of a chunk of money and design my own controller but that will probably never happen.
Oh yea! I forgot.djsynchro wrote:What's with all the serious comments? You're supposed to write some cynical bollocks!
What a load of Dog-Dick that controller Is!
It looks like the Launchpad and the Bitstream 3x had filthy anal sex and had a bastard mechanical child.

The APC40 was overkill for what I wanted, but that looks like it could be just what I want.

the question isn't whether or not you'd buy it... the question is 'would you buy it in pink?' how about yellow? white? red?
