axiom 25 and live 8 intro - a few issues, can anyone help?

I am finding some problems with my axiom 25 keyboard and live 8 intro.

I can get the pads working fine using midi channel 10 and the keyboard itself works find on midi channel 1.

BUT

I cannot get ableton to recognize the knob controls at all

I have tried midi learn using ctrl + m

I click on a control in ableton I want to be controlled and then move the knob on the axiom. I can see midi being 'seen' by the flashing square up in the right hand corner, but nothing else happens.

I have tried going back to axiom 25 defaults using enigma (it seems to work on vista 64).

But no joy in the knob twiddling recognition front

Also it does not seem to see the pitch bend control, but it does see the modulation control.

So it seems ableton can see around 60% of the controls from the axiom

any ideas on what to do?

have I missed a step anywhere?

Hi,

I have Axiom 25. Are you using the controller as a Control Surface? I'm not and have no issues.

Regarding the Pitch/Modulation Wheel issue: I'm having the same problem on my old M-Audio Ozone. Fortunately I'm not missing it.

Yeah am using as a control surface.

It can see the axiom fine (each synth has the blue hand in the right hand corner)

It is also getting the midi data by the flashing midi block in the top right hand corner

Just cannot get ctrl-m and the midi map to see the controls though.

All very bizarre.

Not sure if it is due to vista 64

But it is class complient so seems not to need drivers.

Also m-audio have not brought out vista 64 drivers as of yet (not sure if they ever will).

Well, just tried it right now with the Axiom preset in MIDI/Sync tab. My set-up was the following:

• - Control Surface: Axiom
  - Input: USB Axiom 25 (Port 1)
  - Output: USB Axiom 25 (Port 1)
  - Input port configuration for USB Axiom 25 (Port 1): Track ON, Sync OFF, Remote ON
  - The second input and output: All OFF

I figured out that the default Preset 20 works quite reasonable. Once you switch the track, device or filter with the blue hand can be controlled by Axiom's knobs. Unfortunately the mapping is unknown for me. The device racks are quite straight-forward: two rows by four knobs. But for instance more complicated gadgets like Auto Filter — no-one knows.

You are right that there is in the MIDI Mapping perspective nothing. But still — I am able to assign any knob to another thing. In that case the original mapping that came from the Control Surface is disabled for the particular knob and the knob is following the new mapping.

As I sad at the total beginning: I'm not using Control Surfaces at all. I prefer instant fun instead of solid solution. It's mainly because of I started with version 5 (and later 6) with M-Audio Ozone that was unsupported as a Control Surface. Than I upgraded directly to version 8 but I'm simply lazy to learn new tricks in this; especially if instant mapping was/is exactly what I was looking for.

By the way — Axiom is Class Compliant and should not require any drivers. It should apply not only for OS X but for Windows (any version) as well.

A few weeks ago I read one or two posts from one guy with Axiom Pro 49 or 61. It seems products of M-Audio are designed mainly for headaches.

Till you will be looking for a solution you can use my instant fun approach:

• - I/O configuration is the same as above except Control Surface which is set to None
  - Axiom Preset: 17 (factory default)

This is working well for me. Knobs and transport buttons are free for you, pads are working with Impulse.

There is only a small problem with Drum Racks — pads are one octave up — but you can solve it with Enigma.

Anyway — is the MIDI Mapping working for you if Axiom is not in Control Surface mode?

I think it was a reboot/restart of the keyboard that did it.

Cannot fathom what else it could have been as I did not change anything on the midi setup and it all started working.

It will probably fail tommorow again

If I can find out exactly what caused the problem I will post it here.

Ahh, well. Maybe it's a secret feature of Live. It happened me once when unplugged my MIDI devices accidently. After plugged them back Live was playing but not processing MIDI messages. Restart of Live solved that for me. Can you imagine this funny situation on stage? "Ahh, sorry people. I have to change the train — restart, you know…"
