Reaktor stability

I have been experiencing Reaktor instability when usig more than one instance. This may be related to increased strain ont he CPU (i.e. if the computer is having to work hard already adding a Reaktor plug might cause an unexpected quit.)

Powerbook G4 12" 1.5GHZ, OS X 10.3.8, 1.25GB RAM, Live 4.1.1, Reaktor 4.1.3. as an AU.

Are there any dis/advantage to using NI plugs as VST vs. AU?

Other AU plugs on this system are: Waves 5.0, Altiverb 4.2.2, Absynth 2.0.5, Kontakt 1.5.3

reaktor is really processor intensive, has to be in order to get that amazing sound quality, im sure ...

for most of the better instruments and extreme effects i can never run more than two without comprimising somehow .. bouncing to wav - other tricks - brings my system to its knees. (specs below)

PC's are more efficient than Macs, so if i cant do it you almost definitley cant.

OK I am a new user but have just now read a few (million) posts on PC vs Mac on overall performance. I'm not worried about performance - this Powerbook does just fine - it's the unexpected quits (crashes) that concern me not dropouts or other CPU strain issues.

So to re-ask the question slightly: VST or AU. Does Live prefer one or the other? Do NI plugs do better as AU or VST? I read about Waves issues with VSTs vs AU.

I just ran the so called performance test and did a bit more reading. I eventually crashed Live without any but the built in plugs, by running it hard with a low buffer setting. So it seems this is not related to Reaktor/AU vs VST/plugs per se!

Sorry for the bandwidth, I am just getting my feet wet with this application.

I should mention I am finding Live to be an extremely nice program to use. I believe it is probably the most elegant and well designed (UI) app I have used in 15 years of audio!

Reactor works fine for me, but I would say that there is some GUI issues with it, you can crash it pretty easy if you tweak it while Live is running, and the CPU is full. I find I can rarely crash Live with reactor, if the plug in window itself is not visible........

No big deal IMO, I'm pretty much a huge fan of Reactor though. I use it on at least half of my material.

Write me on that list as well - never felt better since i changed my mainhost to Live 1.5 - and iv'e used it ever since, up to 4.x; compared to other hosts, it was a dream came true when the Abletons left Native Intrumensts some years ago to create Live in the first place - a very vice decicion

I'm a pc-user myself, and Reaktor 4 isn't nice with my system as well (it's a very powerful rig, btw), so i guess it's due to the fact that it's a cpu-hungry app that spike the cpu over the top if you add more than one instance - it's my experience so far.

Guess all we can do is hope a fix will be released to solve this - from the ones in charge of the prob.. (Abletons or Native Instruments - and they Should fit each other like a glove - the history speaks for itself..)

I love Reaktor, but the plug (AU) is really unstable for me. What is weird is that i can run some really intensive (65% CPU) ens. in live without any crash, and sometimes tiny (10% CPU) ens. crash live. It doesnt happend in Logic... NI or Ableton should have a little discussion about it . I've seen lots of questions about it on the NI boards, but no answer.
