as a VST? I've heard of a app called dragon but I know it's not VST/AU.. what mad track calls for such a thing.. you could just get a mic, press record, and speak.. I must be missing something here..

or

type up your text.. save as a pdf and have OSX read it to you.. it's not a joke, look under system preferences.. and take the output of that into ableton via soundflower.. hey, you asked right? :?

Synthol speech synth VST (haven't tried it yet)

No VST, or Au (10.5.x or later): http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/a ... ofile.html - creates small AIFF files out of the text you give it.

On Snow Leopard you could also use services: highlight any text in any app & then e.g. in safari under: menu/safari/services choose "add to itunes as spoken title".

There's also Bitnotic VX-323 although not a plugin: http://www.bitnotic.com/vx-323.html

I use OSX's onboard text to speech converter, has a nice array of different voices.

Why would you use a plugin for text to speech on a Mac? OS X has had text to speech for years.

*little tip*

if you install the apple developer package, you'll find in 'Developer/Applications/Utilities/Speech' a little proggie called 'Repeat After Me', which is really useful
for syncing synthetic speech to sound sources etc, and you can fiddle around with the phoneme lengths and pitches for some good effects.

Yeah, OSX's speech program is really good.

You can use the program Verbalize to get a more usable GUI:

Open Terminal.
Type the following at the prompt:

say hello ryanoscopy

The computer will say hello to you!
Now, type this:

say -o hello.aiff hello ryanoscopy

The computer will output to ~/hello.aiff.
You can mess around with the voices in system prefs>speech>text to speech
Import into Live, chop/warp as needed, EQ, add saturation and redux.

Enjoy!
