I am a bit confused with sampler. I understand it is a sound shaping tool for "sampled audio," but can I use it like an MPC and sample records, tapes and what not. I was just recording from turntable>apogee duet>garage band, then exporting the .wav or whatever file into ableton. There has to be a different and more efficient way. Plus I can't have garageband and live open at the same time since I don't want to re-wire them together.
I do love ableton but I also do love the simplicity of an MPC where can i record directly into it.
My specs are
intel mac
apogee duet firewire interface
ableton live 8
2 gig ram
2.66 intel core duo processor
Thanks!

Re: Ableton Sampler questions
Why not just record your sampled records and tapes into an audio track in Live? Then you can just drag and drop the clip from the track right into the sampler. Live automatically creates a .wav for each clip you record onto an audio track.

+1
then you can manipulate the audio clip at clip envelope level, or just drag and drop it into a sampler.

This is definitely the way to go. You can also time compress/expand the sample and chop it as you see fit. Live has a lot more capabilities than a MPC, and you don't really need to use any other program before bringing audio into Live.

yup to what they said. With the drag and drop, it's super fast. Put some effects on the recorder clip, freeze and send it to the sampler.
