JUSTICE GENESIS TRICKS

Post by petit nuage » Mon Jan 18, 2010 3:35 pm

hello !

so , i would like to know some tips and tricks to understand techniques that justice use for a song like genesis by exple..its just to improve my skill not cloning..

if you have some ideas about how they do that ...please tell me :

- synths ,basses sounds like they are reamped or put into guitar amp ,cabinet or maybe convolution reverb with cab ,amp impulses ..but i dont know ..??

- how to get this groove ? : creating loops with hardware sequencer like mpc or ..sequencing sliced audio out of the grid ?

- how do they do their breaks ,cuts ,like at 0.55 in genesis ...or in stress autoremix at 4.39

and breaks in general like teenage bad girl in this song ,around 1 min and from 1.20 mn to 2.0..:

and ..i would like to know if they use ableton not just for gigs but in studio..héhé but that nobody can tell..

big thank you by advance !!!!

Try some gating tricks with the various elements over your breakbeat :)

My feeling is these guys just put a lot of elbow grease into their work. For the drums they have used a sidechain gating or compression effect (look it up if you haven't), set to the master channel, so that when these particular drum hits happen, the whole track ducks/cuts out. Otherwise they could just be going into arrangement and cutting out whole section, etc. Using scene's is incredible for making these variations (research Scene's if you haven't already).

Honestly, their French, they probably just scrutinize every detail.

Best of luck.

ahhh thank you very very much mister nash !! its very nice !!

you are right i think about precise and painful audio programming..héhé

have you an idea to create this particular funk groove ? i think of genesis ,stress ,dvno ,dance nazis remix and i really love the funky vibe of the human after all remix wow what a groove !!!

and with a daw its hard to obtain a groove like that i think..

i think accurate audio programming off the grid but ..?

maybe they are some loops created using an akai mpc or hardware sequencer and programmed in a daw ..

so i dont know ..if you have some ideas ?

and big thanks again !

try making your own simple break

in another track bring in another break preferably a "busy" one (with lots going on)

set the grid to 32nds

in clip volume edit mode make it so all the clip volume is turned all the way down

now draw in bits of the busy break. try experimenting with the snares and the bits after the snares. make sure you go as high as possible so you get that "abrupt" sound.

use a bit of pan modulation as well

you can do this with basslines as well.

dunno if this is what you are looking for....hope it helps!!

but..when
you talk about simple break you talk about just kick snare hi hat one pattern break thing like that ?

and for the second ..drum hits or noises or synths samples sliced by volume automation kind of things ?

thnks !

admittedly...i suck at trying to explain myself...it doesnt make it better over typing over the internet. :(

yes slicing by volume automation

on that first track you posted and the break you are referencing it sounds like a simple kick snare with a bunch of stuff going on in the background...different changes. when others started talking about a gate effect it got me thinking that lives clip volume automation is like a gate effect.

so you have two beats (or beat and bassline or beat and vocal loop) going at the same time and you automate the clip volume with each beat(you can experiment with clip starts as well) trying to figure out what sounds good. if you have a apc or launchpad you can copy the clips with different automations
to keep things from getting too static...

if i had more time i would try to put up audio of what im trying to explain...

im also just referencing the beats only

if anything you got me thinking in a different direction which is always a good thing so i have to say thanks to you too!

layering sounds for the bass track might help. for example, a thick low bass sound layered with a more twangy light sound may produce a result closer to what you're looking for then a single sound source. also, their tracks tend to always have a 'distorted fuzz' sort of ambiance going on. hope this helps.

yeah thks ..yes it helps !!

but i would like to have some advices in order to achieve THEIR GROOVE by exple "human after all remix "

do you think is precise midi programming off the grid or midi programming , recording in audio and chopped ,sliced to get individual note and reprogramming precisely in audio ,OFF THE GRID ?

just in order to have your point of view ..

thks !
