Virus TI & Ableton in Windows 7 64 bit

Post by jim_justice » Fri Jan 08, 2010 2:47 pm

Anyone have experience with this?
I can't seem to hook up my Virus TI in ableton 8 live.
I run windows 7, 64 bit, quadcore 4gig ram.
It works fine in Cubase 4 though.
I located the plug in folder (in my case C:\programsx86\Steinberg\Vst plug in) and did the rescan in ableton, it recognizes all other plug ins but not the TI.
Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
My buddies at work pointed me out that the folder programsx86 is a 32 bit folder and the TI has 64bit drivers. could that have someting to do with it?

Im running Virus TI with the latest OS (3.3.5 or something like that) on the virus with ableton suite 8.0.9 and i have no problem getting the viruscontrol to work.
i guess the problem is that ableton is a 32 bit software. if u install the 32 bit drivers it should work properly!

bye the way folks,
I am a step further now, I get the virus to work but it doen not work like it should. It reacts very very poorly to modulation recording and every knob in the virus control reacts poorly. as if there's a cpu problem, wich cant be the case cus on same pc it works just fine on winxp 64 bit.

To get the virus recognized in ableton: when installing the driver and firmware for the TI it asks the destination folder.
choose C:\programsx86\ setup wil create a foler named VSTplugins. (NOT in and C:\program since ableton is 32bit! if u do, no problem but it wont recognize anything in that folder later on.)

In ableton in properties\files choose the plug in folder C:\programsx86\vst plugins and rescan. that's it.

I'm running the "3.3.5.02" OS in 32 bit windows 7 Ultimate. Since ableton isn't a 64 bit version u should not use 64 bit drivers or OS on the virus. Install the 32 bit OS and i think it will run properly in ableton.

Im not talking about the operatingsystem on your computer. Im talking about the operatingsystem on your VIRUS. U are using 64 bit OS and drivers on the virus when ableton is a 32 bit sequencer. Download 32 bit drivers from accessmusic.de to your virus and try again in ableton. That should solve the problem.

it is physicly not possible to install a 32 bit TI driver on a 64 bit windows environment so i did not make that mistake.
the setup file stops from installing and states that it will abort due to diffrence in bits of driver and win OS. Vice versa

i don't know why, but i thought u had windows 32 bit. Don't know where i got that from.
I never runned a 64 bit OS myself because i would loose so many plugins that i love that doesn't support 64 bit. But if ableton is 32 bit and windows is running in 64 bit, how is the other plugins working? everything stable?

I'm having the same problem. I'm running Ableton 8.0 with a new virus snow. Ableton sees the "Virus TI" plugin in the Access folder that was created in my plugins folder, but not the "Virus TI Snow" plugin needed to run the snow. I even tried moving the Access folder into my Program Filesx86 directory and pointing Ableton to that and it still only sees the Virus TI plugin.

I'd say remove the TI drivers, and when reinstalling make sure you choose both locations (program files and program filesx86) before goin to ableton fisrt check your file structure cuz if you already had a plug in folder named VST plugins
he will create another folder with the same name! this confuses ableton so make sure you remove one of the twe folders with the same name.
than in ableton point to the programfiles86x. worked for me.

did anyone get any luck with this in the end?

i have heard mixed reviews, i have a snow already and it's an essential part of my kit

ive been told that you will need to install the 64bit version of the virus but it will run in ableton in 32 bit, is this correct?

it's official, there are GUI problems with the TI in the windows 7 environment, 32 and 64 bit. . You can read it in the release changes in the 4.02 release. Untill it's fixed i'll stick to XP 64 bit.
not everyone has these problems though.
