Re: electrix filterqueen
I've had one for years and it's a really unreliable piece of gear. Sometimes the line in will randomly becomes too hot. Sometimes the signal in gets over amplified before the output and overdrives everything. Google the Filterqueen and you should come across several complaints about this. Though it's a nice idea having both env follower and lfo available it's still a hunk o shit. You don't know how it's going to work everytime you turn it on. Sometimes its great...usually its not.
Last year I finally gave up on the FQ and got the Moogerfooger Low Pass Filter. It is awesome. And the sound difference between the two is unreal. The Filterqueen is fully digital, thin and cold sounding, sometimes you can hear the EF stepping. But MF-101 is pure analog incredibleness. You can crank the Drive and get a nice overdriven distortion. Crank the Reso and it self-oscillates. No LFO but it has all kinds of CV inputs that can be utilized a bunch of differnt ways.
Electrix doesn't even exist anymore. No support. No repairs. If you see one for sale and the guy says it works...he's probably lying.
Save up and go with Moog.

Re: electrix filterqueen
so you use the mf-101 for DJing or production?
Re: electrix filterqueen
Using the MF-101 for Production - yes. DJ - no. Not saying you can't, I'm just not a dj.
What I'm really saying is the filterqueen is unreliable and lacks a certain warmth. Sometimes your levels will be ok, sometimes you will power up the unit and everything is thru the roof and the rig is useless. Cycling the unit does nothing. Just turning it on will overdrive everything down the rack.
However, it does have RCA inputs and is spec'd for dj-ing and when it works it can get the job done...it just doesn't always work.

Re: electrix filterqueen
I had a Filterfactory (big brother to the Filterqueen)for years. The one thing I didn't like about it was the fact that when operating in 4 pole mode (24dB slope), the unit summed up both left and right channel and operates in mono mode instead of stereo before going thru the filter. Although it operates in stereo when in 2 pole mode (12dB slope). Dunno if this is true with the Filterqueen. I think the difference between the 2 units is that the Factory has a distortion/overdrive section, is midi capable, and will self oscillate when the resonance is cranked all the way up. The Queen doesn't have this I think.
I also had an Akai MFC42 around the same time and if I compare both units, the Akai sounded a wholel lot better. The Electrix's filters sounded very weak to me.

Mine works.... not for sale but definitely not lyingibbur wrote:If you see one for sale and the guy says it works...he's probably lying.

But yeah I have to agree with you that the sound is pretty thin.
Not having the problems with the inputs getting overdrived though, mine has allways a correct level for the inputs.
@ Frankie P: Yeah, same here with the 'normal' FilterQueen: 4 pole is mono, 2 pole is stereo.
I quickly made a demo for the Electrix FQ:

Re: electrix filterqueen
Sarrova-Q, lucky lucky you. Yeah if your unit still works why in the world would you sell it? That was the point. If someone is trying to part with it, I would be suspicious that's all. Like I said, it's good at what it does when it does it. I've had the unit for about 8 years and got about 5 good years out of it, but it's been spotty ever since. I guess that's pretty good for a closeout MF purchase.
As far as the erratic input/output levels on the unit it could be a power supply thing. I only ran line-level instruments thru it (bass mostly) and when the levels start going wrong and overdriving, the power supply is usually scorching hot.
Since getting the MF-101 the FQ just sits there. Maybe I should sell it
