Re: Clicks and pops driving me to mental breakdown.
Its the Firewire interface chipset.
Does your macbook have a Texas Instruments interface, or is yours from when they changed to Agere/Ricoh?
If it doesnt, then you might be sunk, im not sure you can even use a PCI-X firewire controller if its still going through the onboard one, but others may have experience of this.
The basic things to check are to turn off everything that shares resources with the firewire controller, so disable wireless, dvd drive, card reader, and then do your tests again.
The Firebox is an excellent interface, but (some, not all) non TI firewire chipsets can make it very unhappy.

so MOTU people, how's the ultralight mk3 on PCs? I'm looking for something dependable with low latency
this is exactly the route I took, and I'm soo happy that I did.
I had a firebox that was cracking up, so i took it back, got a motu. that was 2 years ago.
the internal routing of the motu is sick, and is worth it alone. it tougher than a brick too. the only issue I've ever had with it, was it didnt work after I left it in my car for the night. it was -30 out. I had to use a hair drier to warm it up.

Yeah, I did that with a laptop one time and just had to let it acclimate to the room temp and it worked fine.stonee wrote:Android Bishop wrote:

Haha there's an MTV show called Pranked where these kids freeze their buddies Blackberry in a cube of ice and it's still on and ringing, even after being frozen.
and +1 for the hair dryer that worked on a phone one time.

If you're using XP with Bootcamp on a laptop you have to install Speed Switch so your CPU runs at full speed all the time. Plus all the usual stuff like disable the Keyboard Manager and WiFi.zooli wrote:Got the same dubby pops on bootcamp via Audio 8 DJ external card, was digging all over + support sessions = nada...

me too and i,m running an i7 but one clip nearly kills the sound. Only way to fix it is to freeze track and return the new frozen track just down to complexmike@TrackTeam Audio wrote:are you using complex pro. always get pops and clicks with it...total bummer man

cracks and pops on the firebox with any audio apps?Android Bishop wrote:glitchrock-buddha wrote:The presonus stuff has always worked great for me on macs, but I'm starting to think it could be the cause of some of my instability and cracking these days. Things are ok when I'm just using the built-in soundcard, so I think it's time for me to test a different firewire interface...
i'm starting to reach the same conclusion about mine, which is a bummer cause I always loved my firebox. just something about it recently though, cracks and pops on everything and no amount of additional latency fixes it.

i run one too... it's working great since years now, do you have the latest firmware update on it (it is already pretty old, but was never really properly announced... so many people are not aware of it's existence)

Re: Clicks and pops driving me to mental breakdown.
So I was thinking about buying one for ONLY DJing live gigs. Reasons being:
1. Firewire
2. Cheap $199
3. Has more than one stereo output
I have a Apogee Duet, but because the Duet is tied to the headphone out, I can't cue music.
I won't be using it for recording/input at all. All these clicks and pops are done due to recording?

i get clicks when i use the reverb effect. After freezing the track it,s okay.
