is the latest laptop macbook pro 2.53 ghz and 4 gb of ram enough for real big project full of processing vst and such?? i have heavy duty pc for that and i use an old macbook while i m travelling but it's ridiculously bad for making music because of the 5400rpm hard drive, i was just wondering if the latest macbook pro would do a great job for a transportable studio kind of utility.

latest macbook pro ??
Re: latest macbook pro ??
i still run a 2.16ghz 4gb ram 5400rpm internal and external 7200rpm HDs without any problems yet, even the super CPU hungry Live8 is still OK on it running 'large' projects (around 20 - 30 tracks) but that said i am pretty ergonomic in plug in use and don't slam on every track a dozen plugs (which is hardly ever really necessary anyway, if you know what you are doing) on the other side i often use crystal and that is a cpu hog from hell, but i love the sound of it. and i use instruments plugins generally a lot, not that much audio and hardly ever sampling (and instrument plugins are generally the cpu eater)
but i would wait, i have the feeling an update of the MBPs is around the corner and worth the wait.

I have the unibody, 2.4ghz, 2ghz ram, 500gb 7200 hd... and I'm considering an upgrade to a Mac Pro...
The culprits are cpu hungry plug-ins. Live runs like a dream, but to power a large project with tons of plugs and without freezing tracks is not feasible. BUT, if you can get over freezing tracks, its not bad at all. Hence why its only a consideration on my part, we'll see as I get further down the line.
