Macbook Pro
Macbook Pro
Anyone here use a Macbook pro with ableton live at live shows?
I asked a question about laptops a while ago in a thread and got different answers. I've been talking to everyone I know about the system I ought to get and quite frankly, I need to get going on it for my band's sake and I've decided to spend the money and go with a (used) Macbook Pro. I'm looking at a 17" Macbook Pro 3.06ghz 8gb ram 750gb HD Unibody and another Apple MacBook Pro 5.3, 15" Core 2 Duo, 2,66Ghz with 8gb DDR ram.
These should run my ableton live just fine for backing at shows right?

Re: Macbook Pro
should be heaps under the hood. im still running ok with a 2.33 dualcore mbp with 3gb ram and only just starting to max things out.
Re: Macbook Pro
No. I do music but I'm NOT a tech guy. So, I've been asking around with a lot of people to find the right approach. You get ALOT of conflicting messages. My current sound guy that runs the ableton uses an HP laptop to run everything and a M-audio delta 1010 interface. Some people scream that that is terrible and I need a Mac and an RME. Other people say that the Macbook pro is the way to go. If I'm going to spend the money, I want something that will work for at least 2-3 years of very active gigging/rehearsing. It probably seems like a joke to someone who knows a lot more, but it's a big invesment for me that has me nervous so I want to make sure I do it right.
Re: Macbook Pro
Get the MBP, you will be pleased. Especially if the whole tech thing is somewhat of a mystery to you.
Macs= no time tweaking to stay running and less hassle.
PCs=potentially more power under the hood for the same amount of money. A lot of headaches.

Well, if it's not a joke thread then, know that i have been using mine since 2007 and not a single problem while gigging and i intend to keep it at least two more years.

I still use a Macbook Pro 17",2.16Ghz, 2Gb, core duo, to play with my band using Live and Guitar Rig (both standalone), and a RME Multiface as a soundcard, controlled by the RK1,FCB1010 and a UC33e. No problems at all.

Re: Macbook Pro
+1 for the Mac,
I am running a laptop with xp, and yes I do have problems.
Not to mention, if you run windowz and you have any usb devices, if they get unplugged while running live, you have to shut down and plug the device back in, then re start live to get them running.
If you are on OSX you dont have to worry about the usb issue
When I have the money I will be moving to a MBP for sure !!!!!

Re: Macbook Pro
thank you guys. I know it's newb of me, but dropping 2G's on something that you don't fully understand is a little bit nerve wracking. I'm 100% sure now that I'm going to go with a Macbook Pro with at least 4gb of DDR ram. Should last me a while it appears. I want to plug and play man, that's it.
