Assigning a button to reset pan-knob.
Assigning a button to reset pan-knob.
When you use the "pan-knob", there is a little triangle you can push to reset it..
Is it possible to assign a midi-button to this button?
I only get the knob as an option when in midi-map-mode.

i dont have ableton on this laptop to find out for you, but if you try assigning a button to the pan knob then open the midi preferences maybe theres an option there =]

What controler are you using? You could try to set it up to send a momantary CC value of 63 so it allways sends that value (setting the panning to center) whenever you hit that button. this would have to be the same CC that the knob to control the pan
Re: Assigning a button to reset pan-knob.
I dont think you can assign one button and one knob to the same adress.. Only the other way around.Dexes wrote:What controler are you using? With a button, I can choose 2 states for the pan, and switch between the two. With a knob I can only adjust how far the panning goes to each side. But no reset!
Re: Assigning a button to reset pan-knob.
Well you can't set different CC's to the same control in live. But on most controlers you can change what messages each button/knob/fader sends. So all you have to do is set a knob to send a value of 0-127 and then set a button to send the value 63 on the same CC when you press it.Rabalder wrote: I dont think you can assign one button and one knob to the same adress.. Check the manual of your controler on how to setup the midi messages it send.

aaaa! That might work. I`ll give it a try..Dexes wrote:Well you can't set different CC's to the same control in live. But on most controlers you can change what messages each button/knob/fader sends. Ah, forgot to add in the midi mappings you have to set min to "49L" then it should center at 63. The orange light stays on, but if you hover over the control the status bar says "Track Panning: C" and phase cancelation tests result in near silence. Actually the signal is there, but at around -80dB as opposed to -inf when you click on the orange light, but in the end the noise of mixer/amp/cables will probably add up to more than that - just having my virus b hooked up via 90cm balanced cables gives me -77dB when turned on and still -85dB when it's turned off)
The only downside is you can't pan all the way to the left (mute the right channel) this way. Of course it also works the other way around, setting the button to 64 and the midimappings max to 49R.

Actually its not for the pan-knob, but the speed-knob in Looper..Dexes wrote:Ah, forgot to add in the midi mappings you have to set min to "49L" then it should center at 63. Right now I have to use 2 Loopers, one with pitch up and the other pitch down.
Re: Assigning a button to reset pan-knob.
I haven't tried it with a midi controller but i just did it with key mapping so it should be the same. In map mode just map both the min and max value to center or zero or whatever value you're trying to reset to. Then when you push the button it will reset to that value.
Re: Assigning a button to reset pan-knob.
But if you set both min and max value to zero, wouldnt the knob you use to change the speed be stuck at zero all the time aswell..?jhartford wrote:I haven't tried it with a midi controller but i just did it with key mapping so it should be the same. edit: Yepp. Stuck at zero..
Re: Assigning a button to reset pan-knob.
key mapping and midi mapping have to be locked the same values. There for you can't use midi to change the speed as well as a key msg to make it zero. it would be good if you could. Would there be a way around this with max for live? I haven't got M4L so I would be keen to know.
Re: Assigning a button to reset pan-knob.
M4L would do the trick indeed! Unfortunately I havnt got a clue how to build stuff in m4l..sinoise wrote:key mapping and midi mapping have to be locked the same values. I ended up with 2 buttons for octave up/down and a weird programmed knob(bcf) for reset. Works great if you don't absolutely need to go between octaves..

Re: Assigning a button to reset pan-knob.
dummy clip with speed value set to 50%
then turn knob fully to right and trigger the clip. resets to zero...?
not at music machine... might work. dunno though..
