How solid is Live8 for you?

Post by Scaper7 » Sun Jan 31, 2010 11:06 pm

I'm a happy Live7 user trying to evaluate the switch to 8 and whether it's worth the potential 'issues' some users are having with various 8.x.x releases.

...an opportunity for all Live8 users, happy or not, to contribute to a little survey....

Rock solid as long as I set my setup up correctly every time.

My last show I had an issue because I didn't plug my USB devices into the same USB ports that I always do. More of an issue w/ Windows talking to Live as opposed to Live itself though.

Hm, I had some dirty crashes and hangups. Mostly when dropping in devices or clips or channels from the browser into already big sets.

My setup: macbook 2ghz, osx4.11, 3 GB ram, live 8.1.1. I tend to only use live-devices, rarely some plugs like yohngs w1-limiter or the supertrigger or some apple AUs. No reaktor or complex softsynths.

Live 3 and Live 5 literally never crashed on me. Live 8 might be a little bit more buggy than live 7, but then again one is always increasing the complexity with the time. The sets I build today are far more complex and heavy than the stuff that I did a couple of years ago. So it's really hard to compare the performance.

8.1.1. Crashes everytime I alt-re-scan VST folder.

Post by robdrums » Tue Feb 02, 2010 7:05 pm

ABLETON LIVE 8.1.1 CRASHED HARD - when you do an ALT-RE-SCAN of your VST FOLDER. I am using Windows 7

I thought this was one of the fixes in 8.1.1

I will send my log file later for this.

Thanks
Please fix this issue. I just purchased this upgrade and already bugs in newest version.

Please note: Can you not program the software to bypass incompatible VST's, should this be causing the issue, or so I've heard in other forums. It would seem to be the best way to get past this issue and clear it for good.

Did it crash completely or just hang up really bad? I ask because mine looked liked it crashed, but if I just let it finish scanning it would come back.

Rock solid here. Still running 8.0.9 though (no need to update as I don't have m4l and no crashes on my system)

I probably had a total of around 15-20 crashes since 8.0.3, half of those after installing a few freeware effects plugins. Deleted the ones that seemed to be causing problems and it's been running smoothly ever since.

Setup:
PC: HP-Pavilion DV-5 / 2.1Ghz AMD Turion X2 Ultra / 4 GB RAM / Win7 x64
Interface: Echo Audiofire 2 connected via an exsys expresscard-->Firewire400/USB card with TI Firewire chipset
Controlers: BCF2K / BCR2K / UMX25 / Remote Zero SL / Launchpad

its not possible to gauge a decent result with 3 poll options, when the number of different setups and configs runs into the 1000's.

OSX or PC

snow leopard or leopard

native or 3rd party plugs, your sound drivers & hardware, usb peripherals, etc, what other software may be conflicting.

... I agree ... or with such a small sample of users ... I found the results so far interesting nonetheless ... not reading too much into it ... seems to confirm my apprehensions ... might stay with V7 for a little while longer ...

not sure so much what the problem is...
but i definitely am having problems.
I have been having a lot of slowness in the way live 8 responds on my system
macbook 2.2g - 4g-7200/320hd- 10.6.2
motu ultralite v1 firmware 1.15
UC33 - Nanopad
I have had multiple instances of my motu crashing with Live 8 - but never saw that before and still works perfect with Live 7...
Really hoping for a fix of some sort soon.

I'm not using Max or the Looper, so Live 8.x is a step backward for me honestly.

I never had any crashing issues in 6 or 7...

ok, not really true. I crashed in 6 and 7, but not very often. with 8 its at least once a week, sometimes more if I'm using it all day.

If I were you I'd keep a stable install of V7 with a seperate library, and demo Live 8.

Then you can mess with the cool new features yada yada yada, you get all the good stuff but you can still go back to your stable set up.

Just my 2 cents.

unless you opened any files into Live 8.1 and saved them....then you cannot go back ;-)

I've learnt my lesson (from with Apple updates!) that I should always wait for a major release to become "stable" before I jump ship. However, I don't think release stability should take several months...
