Audiofire 12 + DAW issue

Hi there.

I'm having some issues interfacing my Echo Audiofire 12 with Ableton Live 8/Fl Studio 9 (and I'm assuming any other daws).Its running through Firewire 800 and Vista 64 bit.

My problem is with the inputs. When I use the Echo Audiofire console program and input something, the output comes out clean and as it should be coming out.
However, when I enter one of the DAWS, and route an external input from the appropriate channel on the audio interface, everything gets overdriven and almost sounds like its extremely bit crushed or rate reduced as it comes into the DAWS.

What could be the source of the mass distortion?
