Egypt Of My Lungs...Instrumental stoner/prog/post-rock

Post by crashofgods » Sun Feb 07, 2010 2:33 am

These are a few rough tracks tracks from my EP I'm working on. I know it's not the kind of stuff that usually gets posted on here, but I'm kind of clueless when it comes to production/mixing/etc, so any advice would be great.

I look forward to feedback.

its not my favorite kind of music, but you definitely have a little bit of skill for sure. Keep at it, the next song is always better than the last

Despite your comment of a previous post, I still took the time to listen to your tracks. If anything, just to show that you made your point. No harm, no foul! You do have respectable skills and your tracks are indicative of that. Rough as they are, your EP should fair well when completed. The guitar is refreshing and all were epic. Hope that we can just get along from here on. Thanks for sharing.

As for my previous post, I owe you an apology. I was admittedly drunk and already in a pissy mood, which goes to prove the age-old truism of, "it's a bad idea to peruse internet message boards while drunk unless you're trying to make a twat of yourself." So yeah, sorry.

Thanks for the feedback. The roughness was something that I actually played up a bit, as my setup is pretty ghetto-rific, so I had to decide between wasting a bunch of time trying to trump things up and make them sound better than they rightfully shoud, or just run with the lo-fi sound, which I'm a big fan of anyway, so I took the path of least resistance.

Sort of reminds me of The American Dollar. Good use of hard panning that really spaces out the sound. Some parts sound like you were driving it a little too hard and it was clipping and distorting, not sure if that was intentional. I haven't really played guitar in ages but the tone on the solos sounds a little thin, don't ask me how to mix that better. Cairns is probably my favorite track and really stands well on it's own.

Yeah, some of the guitar is a little overdriven, but that's because of my setup, which is just my guitar going into my computer with a standard guitar cable and 1/4"-1/8" adapter, which causes some tonal issues, and I could only get either not enough overdrive or too much overdrive, and my background being in punk and hardcore, I decided to go with too much. I dunno about clipping and distortion (other than what I meant to achieve with overdrive and effects), as I didn't really notice any. I'll be sure to go back and check. And yeah, I know what you mean about the "solos." I'm not sure if it's a frequency thing or the effects or if it has to do with the same problem as before, but it's one of the things I hope to fix.

Thanks a ton for the feedback!

P.S. I'd never heard of The American Dollar before, but am checking them out now. They're fucking rad. Thanks for the (unintentional) reference.

This The American Dollar video is pretty awesome too.

At least you are finishing up the bulk of your songs and working with what you have. There's many of us on here that have an insane amount of gear and software and never get anything done or out because we're too preoccupied with trying to get the perfect production. So good on you for that too.
