If you really want to make something, you can make it. I'm convinced about that.
It is very true, but it can also sound dawnting to some folks to get it thrown at you if you are struggling to finish other projects! "Why don't you just get another job?" or "Why don't you just change your life?" "when are you going to get a girlfriend?" or even better: "why aren't you married?" :D

Akai and the others should provide some kind of blank template on there websites with virtual knobs, sliders etc... then you drag and drop to create templates for them to review

if anyone is any good with flash I could break my freehand designs into parts to make this idea a reality. Akai would be wise to follow threads like this to see what people really want in a custom APC.

I'd love to be a product designer for Akai or someone.

As for midibox stuff I have the same issue as most others. Time. I built a midibox SID a few years back but I'd rather spend my time on music. It's taken me two years to build 3 of 4 modules for my paia modular.

akai should do what bill putnam did for the 610 preamp and make little modular peices that you can buy and rearrange and put in a chassis. then everyone would be happy. OPENSOURCE FTW! :D

This may not be to everyone' liking....
but here's a small dj style controller for people who are happy mixing no more than 4 tracks that id like to see akai make.
Its half the size of an apc20 yet it keeps all the functionality of the apc20 (excpet smaller grid) and has some more functionality too like 9 sends.
It still includes arming tracks, solo/cue, navigation and transport controls which if you look at the labels could be achieved with giving all the buttons shift functions.
It could probably fit in a laptop bag and run off usb alone.
Plus having 12 knobs instead of 8 you could still do device control,) volume and pans could be combined in another bank, proper dj style eq for each of the 4 channels and 9 sends instead of just 3, so basically 3 sets of 3 sends for each channel and of course 3 user modes.
Providing you dont mind using endless encoders for volume control this packs a hell of alot functionality out of such a small device.
Im curious to see what other people would think of something like this if you all would think this were a good product too?

glitchrock-buddha wrote:This idea is currently restricted by the software though right? I believe you can only have the blue hand on one device at a time, so even having 2 APC40, you could only use device control on one (or they'd both be assigned to whatever is selected).
Would we have a blue and a red hand ? or just not worky ?

Panic wrote:I have an APC40 and I love it. I Like the "idea" of the APC20 but for my needs it functionally goes in the opposite direction. I threw together a quick mockup of what I would have preferred Akai to make. My mockup APC and an APC20 would be the perfect dual APC setup for my particular needs.

Each encoder bank would work nearly exactly like the device control section of the 40.
thats a great idea!!! the knobs are the only reason why i bought the apc40 instead of the launchpad
