Lazyfish's Spiral ensemble for Reaktor is worth investigating. It represents the next level of computer music where one virtual device can drive another, with very little human intervention, and yet generate some very compelling "musical" sounds.

Here's a nice example of Spiral culling some exotic sounds from Battery:

Great post. I'll check out all the links & recommendations soon.

For now, I have one of my own: Recombinant Media Labs. Surround audio (16x8x2) & video screens (360 degrees), spatialized audio content, & world-caliber artists using a variety of instrumentation, techniques & media. Previously located in San Francisco, RML is now researching new locations.

try looking through here - this lot have done some whacky stuff over the years

also there is a german woman who has done lots of cool stuff, including making some headphones which amplify sounds which are usually inaudible to the human ear - she has more recently taken the concept out of the installation space and has been sending people out onto the streets in various cities - people go to locations on maps and you can hear all sorts of stuff, including shop security systems

anyways - her installation work is pretty cool - now i just have to remember her name - i ve just sent an sms to a friend who i think will remember who it is

from the guy who did "Recorded Delivery"
Janek is fantastic, very interesting stuff, some of it strange and eccentric.

Felix Thom graduated the year before me at London College of Communication in Sound Art and Design with this amazing piece:

Check out Daito Manabe who works a lot in max/msp and jitter - he uses sensors to trigger sounds:
