I'm currently learning as much as I can about my Abelton Live Suite using the settings installed with the program, and those are great, and fun as hack to play with..
But I've got an old Akai MPC 2000 that I have never connected to my computer to try to experiment with...
I also have another couple of pieces of hardware that I'd like to hook into the system, but haven't a clue on where to start to get the information I'd like to get this started. Anybody with examples of how they are set up for the computer/external instrument connection?
I know this is first year midi musician stuff, but I consider myself one of them too.
Thanks, any response would be greatly appreciated
Multiple Audio/Midi devices connection
Re: Multiple Audio/Midi devices connection
If your hardware doesn't have USB, you're going to need a MIDI interface of some kind. I used to use a dedicated MIDI controller, but nowdays many USB audio interfaces have MIDI connectivity as well -- But usually only one in and one out. Back before I ditched 99% of my hardware gear, that wouldn't work. Nowdays, it's fine.
What are all the pieces of hardware you want to hook up? Are you using your built-in computer audio, or do you have an audio interface already?

Re: Multiple Audio/Midi devices connection
sorry for not getting back....
I currently have 4-5 midi-devices:
MPC2000 - will be used as midi-controller only, possibly some use of the internal MPC settings...
Korg synth (the name slips, but it has many many knobs I'd like to hook up and tweak, at will)
Korg ER1 (?) - a little drum machine
Akia - samlpler -not sure of the name, but I bought it because I heard that fatboy slim had used it for the first batch of albums
Oxygen 8 - midi controller
I was thinking I'd get a audio/midi interface with about 4/5 ins and 4/5 outs, along with at least 2 audio in/outs (the audio in/out would be so that I could pull the synth sound from the synth, to be recorded within live....
Running an '09 macbook pro, with none of the problems that some have posted on this forum..
This is taking me a long time, but I'll figure it out eventually...
Thanks for the input/response.. I'll check back again
