Stupidest question ever, but...

Post by gregtzu » Wed Feb 10, 2010 12:30 pm

Hello,
I am completely new to Ableton as I just downloaded the Live Intro Demo. I can't get any sound and I am just trying to run it out of my computer speakers. I have selected the correct (and only) driver in the audio preferences. The volume is on. I have taken a drum beat and looped it. The meters show that sound is being produced but I can't hear it. I know that it is something insanely simple, but any advice would be a great help! Thank you.

can you get sound from other applications like iTunes?
if not then check the volumesetting of your soundcard.

did you selected not just the right driver but also the right I/O card...? you need to activate the I/Os in ableton as well... maybe check again in live's preferences the audi settings.

Hi. I checked the Input and the Output configurations and they seem to be good (there is only one option for the output anyway). When I try to consult the lesson on configuring the audio it says "It will take us about ten minutes to configure everything..." I don't know what this is referring to, because I can't seem to this configuration process. Unless, I have already done it. Anyway, I'm still stumped...

Hi. Thanks! I don't know what is up. I just configured the audio. Everything seems to be good. All my other audio (iTunes, system sounds) are working. What's killing me is that I know it is something simple... :P

Hi. Sorry. I'm running OSX 10.5.8 and the sound card is the Core Audio(if that is correct). Whatever came with the computer. Thank you!

If you go to Live's Preferences, the audio tab, and click the button for test tone... do you hear anything?

Have you selected the correct output as well as the correct driver and card?

This is done from the drop-down box on the master channel.

When that's done then the tiny tiny vu meters in that box should be flashing up and down too.

Also have you closed all other apps before launching ableton. I see you are on a mac, however on my pc sometimes winamp doesn't let go of the soundcard if it was started up first, so ableton can't make any noise.

Hello everyone. Thank you for all of your replies. No luck, however. Yes, I can hear the tone. Everything should be working, but...
As I said before, I know it's something so simple... Thanks again!

Ok, so you can hear the test tone... that's a start, means your audio settings are correct.

Maybe post a screenshot when it's playing and the meters showing...?
